Hurricane Harvey has devastated parts of Texas, and yet there are still many people out there who deny the existence of global warming and climate change as REAL, quantifiable issues.
Scientists have already stated definitively that climate change made Hurricane Harvey stronger and more devastating due to oceanic and atmospheric warming. Despite the vast amounts of research and analysis to back up the notion that climate change is, in fact, having a devastating impact on our planet, people still have the gall to call it a hoax.
More distressing, though, is President Trump's weak and superficial response to the devastation that has occurred in Texas. Instead of using his visit to Texas as an opportunity to meet with victims of Hurrican Harvey and provide much-needed support, President Trump held another one of his campaign-style rallies to drum up support for himself, no shocker there.
The people of Texas don't need a rally in support of the man who has already been their President for over 6 months, they need that man to step up and be the leader they deserve- and so far, he's a no-show.
Texas is not the first climate-change related natural disaster, and unfortunately, it won't be the last. It's time our new government dropped the "climate change is fake news" act and realized that things are going to get a lot worse unless they make some proactive changes to combat global warming.
We the people, deserve a government that grounds its decisions and policies on fact, and not conspiracy theories spouted by the ignorant. And more importantly, we deserve a leader who cares more about his people than himself, who puts their needs above his own narcissistic interests, and who makes decisions based on science and fact, not based on undocumented suppositions and assertions.
