Start Doing What Makes You Happy And Living Your Best Life

Finding your happiness,

All your life you are told what to do, what to wear, what to eat, what school to go to, etc. After all the years of people guiding you and telling you what to do you are questioned later: what major you want to study and what job you want to pursue, or the toughest question of them all... what to eat?

When you tend to listen to what others want you to do, you look for reassurance in your daily life. For example, asking should you dye your hair or should you go to your dream school — Knowing deep down you know you want to cut your hair and practically all your life you've known what college you want to call your home, but something is still telling you to ask someone what their opinion is about it, when it's your life, your body, your mind.

The feeling of happiness is different for everyone. Whether your happiness comes from wearing your favorite sweater, watching your favorite show, eating your favorite food, the smallest things can cause happiness in your life. Taking a moment out of your day to do something that makes you happy is not selfish, it is only right. You never really know who is truly happy because in our generation people show you what they want you to think.

On your Instagram feed, the first ten posts might be a mix of pictures of people smiling and some people acting goofy but we honestly will never know if that is truly a moment of happiness or a staged candid. People do so much to portray an image they want or that other people want for them that they forget to be themselves and actually do something of their own choice. The key is to not look for reassurance in people, but to do what you think is best! Who knows you better than yourself? No one.

We all know that feeling that we get seeing our favorite artist live in concert...the excitement in the air, your adrenaline running, you're so close to them yet so far away, the anticipation of what song they're going to sing, that feeling is happiness. In life, it is important to find a happy medium for your time and sharing time with friends and family. Balance is key. When you do things that make you happy it is like you are taking a break from reality. Once you start putting your self first and taking the time to do the things that put life into living, you will find true happiness.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
