Do Not Tell Me To "Respect" President-Elect Trump

I have watched since 2008, when I was only nine years old, the way that President Barrack Obama was treated. I watched as you called my president a terrorist. I watched as you called him names that insulted and scared me. I listened as you and your party in the House and Senate swore that you would never let him get anything done. Vanity Fair said it best when they said "When we look back someday at the catastrophe that was the Bush administration, we will think of many things: the tragedy of the Iraq war, the shame of Guantánamo and Abu Ghraib, the erosion of civil liberties. The damage done to the American economy does not make front-page headlines every day, but the repercussions will be felt beyond the lifetime of anyone reading this page". And they were right. Obama was sworn into a country divided by economics, hatred, and war. Despite this, and the hatred that was felt, Obama has added more than 13.7 MILLION jobs, helping people who would otherwise be without a job earn a living. Obama has shed new light on the climate change issues, and worked tirelessly to ensure that the environment is being looked after while still making oil companies and other major businesses happy.

Still, however, when I open Facebook and look at the comments, the things being said appall me. Among these comments? 'It will be so refreshing to have a classy, beautiful, dignified First Lady back in the White House. I'm tired of seeing a Ape in heels.' This comment is unwarranted, racist, and downright insulting. But it only gets worse when you realize that Clay Mayor Beverly Whaling commented on it, claiming it made her day.

But still, when I post about Donald Trump, or express my displeasure with the results of this election, I am told that I need to "respect the results" of the election. Or I am told that there is nothing I can do to change the results, and I need to be respectful to our soon-to-be president.

I'm sorry, but you tell me to hold my tongue, and to be quiet for the sake of respect, as you call MY first lady an ape. As you ask MY president for his birth certificate. As you claim that you are the most patriotic and respectful of people, yet you not once have shown that respect to the man who turned the economy around after YOUR last president sent us into a near recession.

Do not tell me to respect that man. I will do no such thing. He is still #NotMyPresident.

We Need More Than Memorials this Memorial Day
Cape Cod Irish

When I was a child, I used to look forward to Memorial Day Weekend from the time I returned to school after Christmas vacation. I remember how exciting summer was when I was a kid. I would just be eagerly waiting for school to end so that I could fly to some exotic location with my family for the summer. Or hang out with my friends every day. Or just lay around in bed or read, paint, draw, basically do whatever.

When we think of events that have transpired in the US over the last few years, a lot of it ends up in spotlighting the division in the country. However, things across the pond seem to be no better - at least when it comes to sports.
