Fear can protect us. It can tell us when something is just not right. However, fear also stalls us. Fear overwhelms us. Fear can make us the worst versions of ourselves. I'm here to tell you not to be afraid.

Do not be afraid to feel emotions.

Do not be afraid to love with wild abandon.

Do not be afraid to be outwardly confident. Do not be afraid to be seen as conceited by a society that hasn't caught up to you yet.

Do not be afraid to go against authority that is corrupt.

Do not be afraid to fight a system that does not protect you.

Do not be afraid to seize opportunities.

Do not be afraid to cry.

Do not be afraid to miss home.

Do not be afraid to be fiercely independent.

Do not be afraid to be alone.

Do not be afraid to eat chicken nuggets instead of a salad.

Do not be afraid to eat a salad instead of chicken nuggets.

Do not be afraid to put yourself in the minds and eyes of others.

Do not be afraid to grab a spotlight when you need it.

Do not be afraid to live.

Do not be afraid to be afraid.

It will be okay. I promise.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
