Between the abundant social media platforms, consumers of beauty products are constantly bombarded with the newest DIY beauty tip. With so many voices telling you the “best” remedy how does one actually know what works and which tips are best left for Pinterest clickbait? I happen to be a huge sucker for beauty related home remedies and have tried my fair share of the internet’s selection. From my personal collection, here are the five best tips- tested by yours truly.

1. Lemon Juice and baby powder for a quick acne fix

There are endless formulas and tricks out there for clearing out acne, but when it comes to quick relief from zits- stick to the basics. All that you will need is lemon juice and baby powder to shrink an unwanted distraction the night before a big event. The combo of the acid and baby powder dries out and disinfects- giving you quick results. This method is very drying, so only use as a spot treatment and follow up with a light moisturizer.

2. Baking soda and peroxide for pearly whites

It is the week before your big event, but you're low on cash and it's time to whiten your smile dulled by too many Starbucks trips. Luckily, this crisis can be averted with a magical mixture of household items: peroxide and baking soda. This method is tried and true- so much that many whitening toothpaste companies even use the concoction in their formulas. Brush with the mixture lightly in circular motions (avoiding gums if possible), let it sit for a minute or two and then enjoy your stain-free smile.

3. Vaseline for lash growth

After longing for luscious lashes as a young teen, I had tried everything the internet had to offer. Any oils, creams, and lotions that I could get my hands on with promise for lash growth were tested. After much experimentation, I found that brushing through my lashes nightly with a coating of Vaseline was actually making a difference. They were a bit longer, thicker, and stronger- no fancy lash serum required.

4. Vitamin E for glowing skin

Like many teens, I have struggled with acne on my body. Of course, with acne comes the dreaded scarring and dark spots left behind. To lighten the spots, try dabbing on a bit of vitamin E oil twice a day. The Vitamin E rejuvenates the skin cells as well as maintaining moisture in the freshly healed skin.

5. DIY sugar scrub for effortlessly exfoliated skin

Whether you have dry skin, oily skin, or anything in between it is essential that you exfoliate to get rid of the dead skin cells to allow healthy skin to grow and breathe. The best exfoliators are those made at home with skin-friendly ingredients.

For a DIY exfoliating sugar scrub, you will need coconut oil, sugar, and your favorite essential oil/s. A 2:1 ratio of sugar to oil seems to create the perfect consistency, but feel free to play around with the scrub to your skin’s needs. The scrub will exfoliate while leaving your skin moisturized and refreshed.

Now that you are equipped with the best tips, it's time to start rummaging through your cabinets to find your next beauty DIY. Have fun, and good luck.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
