Distance Makes The Heart Grow Fonder

We all miss someone while they are away, but what drives you to miss them?

“Distance makes the heart grow fonder.” We have all heard of the saying, but have we ever taken the time to realize the things we miss while our significant other or friend is gone? When you spend almost every waking moment with a person, you learn so much about them. You learn every little intricate detail about that person. You begin to see what drive them, what makes them stress, and what you can do to make life even just a little bit easier for them.

When the person you love is gone for even a week, it can seem like years! You miss having to pull together all the hair on the shower wall and throwing it away, not because you have to, but because you know it’s one less thing they have to worry about. Maybe it’s the fact that now you don’t have to fill up a water bottle overnight for the two of you to drink right before bed. Brushing your teeth? Who knew doing something so simple together could make the heart grow fonder. Its simple things like that that make me miss her, but also the big things.

When I get off of work and call her to let her know I’m on my way home to see her, that’s one thing that I can’t do when she’s gone. When she’s gone, I don’t get to see her open the door, excited to see me. For me, it’s like the first time I saw her every time that she opens the door, complete with a racing heart and a loss of words.

I miss being able to see her in person. Its little things like brushing up against each other as we walk side-by-side outside or around the house. Little things like making eye contact and winking at each other. Little things like sitting down and talking about our day at work together. Yes, we could talk about work over the phone, but being able to sit together and talk face-to-face beats a phone call by a million to one.

I miss lying next to her at night and having the feeling that everything is going to be OK. I miss her little snore that puts a smile on my face. I miss knowing that all night she will only be an arm’s length away, and that I can feel her warmth against my body as we sleep. I miss feeling that in these moments together, nothing else matters. These are the things that give me feelings I cannot describe.

It's the little things, as well as the big things, that make my heart grow fonder. The things that I miss most when there are many miles between us, and the things that I look forward to the most when I know that we will be together again.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
