Disney movies were huge parts of my childhood. I was exposed to different plots, characters, and morals simply by watching films. Some movies had clear morals, and others had morals hidden within the dialogue. Being exposed to inspirational sayings as a child shaped me into a dreamer, and I hope it did the same for all the others who love Disney as much as I do. With hundreds of inspirational quotes and morals to choose from, I decided to narrow a list down to the most meaningful sayings and beliefs; the ones that should leave a huge impact on our lives.
1. “Oh, yes, the past can hurt. But you can either run from it, or learn from it.” Rafiki, "Lion King."
As a child I didn't understand what that meant. Reflecting back, now, as a young adult I understand completely. Things that have happened in the past can be extremely hurtful. Maybe you were stabbed in the back by (ex)friends, maybe you lost loved ones, or maybe you said the wrong words/did the wrong thing in a situation, resulting in a negative outcome. Whatever happened in your past was designed by something greater than us. We must learn from our mistakes and our past so that we know how to properly deal with similar events in our future.
2. “You must not let anyone define your limits because of where you come from. Your only limit is your soul.” Gusteau, "Ratatouille."
"Ratatouille" is filled with inspirational quotes. This one stuck out most to me. A lot of people set limitations for us. We set limits for ourselves, too! But we should not allow these limits to restrict us. You never know what you can achieve. You have to put yourself out there, challenge yourself, and allow your mind, body, and soul to follow your passions. It does not matter that Remy is a rat; if he wants to cook, he should be able to cook. Apply this to your life. Whatever you want to try or to succeed at, do it!
3. "Sometimes the right path is not the easiest one." Grandmother Willow, "Pocahontas."
We often look for the easy way out, hoping we will accomplish things quicker and be able to move on to bigger and better things. In reality, the path we should be taking is the harder one. In order to get the best possible outcome, passion, dedication, and persistence are necessary. It may not be the easiest path, but the end result will make it all worth it.
4. "Open different doors, you may find a you there that you never knew was yours. Anything can happen." Bert and Mary Poppins, "Mary Poppins."
We all have heard the saying, "When one door closes, two more open," but do we ever check both doors when the situation arises? Or do we just choose one of the two great opportunities, and hope it's best? Open different doors, try out various situations, and while doing so, you'll expose yourself to new environments. Traits that have been inside of you all along may appear, and you'll learn more about yourself and what you are capable of.
5. "Remember you're the one who can fill the world with sunshine." Snow White, "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs."
The world (or even your personal world) can be a scary and depressing place, but you have the power to bring sunshine and joy into the world. You can make a change.
6. "You don't have time to be timid. You must be bold. Daring." Lumière, "Beauty and the Beast."
Be courageous, confident, and brave. Make your statement and say it with pride. Don't be afraid of what could happen.
7. "If watchin' is all you're gonna do, then you're gonna watch your life go by without ya." Laverne, "The Hunchback of Notre Dame."
You have to live your life, not sit back and let things happen. Take the driver's seat and make some changes. Bumps in the road will happen, but that doesn't mean you should move to the passengers seat and watch everything fly by. You must take charge and live your life. That's the only way you'll truly be able to enjoy it.
8. “From failure we learn, from success not so much." Lewis, "Meet The Robinsons."
We strive to avoid failure, but really, failure is great! If you never fail, you never learn new things. People learn from their mistakes and wrongdoings, so really, failures should be celebrated!
