Everyone loves a good Disney movie. Whether your a fan of the classics (Lion King, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty) or the newer stories (Brave, Frozen), it is definitely exciting whenever one of the most notable franchises in the world decides to announce a new fantasy.
I've created a list of the Disney movies you have to look forward to!
1. Finding Dory
OK, who doesn't adore Dory? This lovable blue tang with short term memory loss swam her way into our hearts when she helped Marlin the clown fish search for his missing son, Nemo, in 2003. (Was it really 13 years since Finding Nemo?!)
Finding Dory is supposed to chronicle Dory's journey as she searches for her family and crosses the ocean to get from Australia to California. Tons of new friends are set to be introduced and will certainly add some variety, but characters from the original movie will maintain the familiarity of the story for the now young adults who grew up watching Finding Nemo.
Ellen Degeneres is set to reprise her role as Dory when Finding Dory comes out June 17, 2016. We're less than a month away!
2. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
Yes!! A fifth movie! Johnny Depp returns as our favorite pirate, Jack Sparrow. As usual, Sparrow's got someone on his tail and in Pirates V, Captain Salazar is the lead antagonist. Jack and his crew are on a mission to secure Poseidon's Trident so they can control the seas and defeat Salazar, whose ultimate goal is to kill every pirate on this ocean.
Geoffrey Rush reprises his role as Captain Hector Barbosa, and Orlando Bloom reprises his role as Will Turner (SPOILER) recently turned Davy Jones, the captain of the Flying Dutchman. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Keira Knightley will be returning for the fifth Pirates movie.
Kaya Scodelario will play supporting character Carina Smyth-- a female astronomer fighting for her chance at education (because women were not allowed to attend university during the time of the story). You may recognize Kaya from her roles as Teresa Agnes in The Mazerunner, Elizabeth 'Effy' Stonem in Skins (UK), and Peshet in Clash of the Titans.
May 26, 2017 is the release date for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales-- well, we only have a about a year to wait after this article's publication. Don't forget!
3. Moana
Moana is a the tale of a young Polynesian navigator who searches for a fabled island. Hawaiian demi- god Maui also makes an appearance to help guide Moana on her journey. Auli'i Cravalho voices Moana and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson is also set to voice a primary character.
It's certainly refreshing to see a movie that's set in Polynesia. Lilo & Stitch (2002) was the last movie set in an "exotic" land and is going to be hard to follow, but I have high hopes for Moana. The idea of focusing on some Polynesian culture throughout the movie is very intriguing and can help educate viewers/broaden horizons.
The release date is November 23, 2016.
These are just a few, so make sure to keep your eyes open over the coming years for some great Disney adventures!
