If you went to Disneyland as a child, you probably remember it as this magical place where all your favorite Disney characters come to life. Now if you have gone to Disneyland as an adult with a child you remember it completely different.
You don’t remember them being all smiles as you waited in line to ride the teacups, you remember them crying, saying they want to go home because they are tired. As a child, you might have loved the extra-long churros, but the child you happen to be with doesn’t even want to take a bite as you offer it to them. It is dough full of sugar, how could they not!
In fact, they don’t really want to eat anything, or they can’t make up their mind. When they finally do make up their mind, they decide that they rather have the thing that they happen to be looking at the moment. You aren’t made of money.
You might still have the first set of Mickey ears with your name embroidered gold on it. Those memories you have of having them on as you took a picture with Mickey or Princess Cinderella just keep flashing through your head that you decide to buy one for the child you are with. As they wait for their name to be embroidered, you can’t help but smile at seeing them wait for it excitedly.
Their grin from ear to ear and their round eyes makes you forget about the tantrum they had earlier about being scared of riding in the carousel that you had to get out of line on the last minute. They put it on, you take a picture, but it isn’t long until they want to take it off because they no longer want to wear it. You try to convince them to wear it a bit longer, but there is no convincing a five-year-old.
Oh and the restroom breaks. You may not remember going to the restroom countless of times, or even once on your Disneyland trip as a child, but really, what child would. You do on the other hand remember all that time spent in the restroom for every time that tiny human’s bladder got full.
You may remember your trips to Disneyland as being more magical than going as an adult with a child, but I am sure it was very similar to the one you had as an adult. You may stress because you want their experience to be as magical as your own, but don’t worry because in their eyes it was just that.
