If Disney Princesses Went to College

They just want to be part of our world.

If Disney Princesses Went to College

Growing up, every little girl wanted to be a princess. More specifically, we all wanted to be a Disney princess. But instead, I faced the facts I would never be a Disney princess and decided to go to college and major in accounting and English. While I still sometimes wish I could just be a Disney princess, I feel like the Disney princesses wish they could go to college and be a little more like me. So, if Disney princesses ever did go to college, here's what they would major in.

Ariel - Speech-Language Pathology

Ariel knows all about not being able to speak. She walked around for days without a voice trying to make a prince fall in love with her. I feel like after going through her ordeal, Ariel would want to make sure no one was ever voiceless again. She would spend her time studying speech and helping others learn how to speak better.

Rapunzel - Art

So I'm sure you've seen "Tangled", aka the best Disney princess movie, and you know how much Rapunzel loved to paint. She painted all over the walls of her house (something most of us would've gotten in trouble for). Sure, you may be thinking that with that long, blonde hair, she may be more suited for cosmetology. I mean, if you can take care of that mane, you can make anyone's hair look good. And for a while, I thought that, too, until I realized that painting was her passion - not her hair.

Princess Aurora - Fashion Merchandising

Also known as "Sleeping Beauty", Aurora would have majored in fashion merchandising. That color changing dress was a classic (even if the fairies were technically the ones making it change color). Plus, she was gifted with a natural touch for a spinning wheel (get my pun there?), so we know she would have to have some natural talent.

Belle - Library and Information Science

Belle was an avid reader, with the Beast gifting her with a library full of all the books she could ever possibly read. Belle, with her inquisitive and knowledge seeking nature, would have no doubt majored in Library and Information Science, a degree that would have allowed her to go to work in a library or archive center and spend her days amongst the books.

Jasmine - Zoology

This girl knows how to handle her tiger. Jasmine's pet tiger, Raja, makes me think that Jasmine would make a great Zoology major. I feel like she would be best suited helping out Agrabah's sandy landscape and the people and animals who live there. As a princess, she is already in a position to better the lives of her subjects.

Cinderella - Hospitality Management

Cinderella may have been bossed around all the time by her step-sisters and step-mother, but she really did handle it well. I would have gone off on them multiple times, but Cindy kept her cool. Her good manners and ability to be a great "homemaker" make her an ideal major for a hospitality management major. She'd be able to deal with whoever came her way.

Tiana - Culinary Arts

So this one is obviously a given. Tiana wanted to open and cook for her own restaurant, and culinary arts is the major that makes the most sense for her. Her undoubtedly delicious food would be full of southern and cajun flavors. She's a hard worker, and even without a culinary education, she was already one of the best chefs in town.

Merida - Feminist Studies

Ah, Merida, I Disney princess that I dislike almost as much as Snow White. Yeah, Merida is a good role model in some aspects like refusing to an arranged marriage, but I can't help but kind of see her as a brat. She reminds me of myself at her age, and that's not really a good thing. Nonetheless, Merida is an iconic feminist now, and obviously her studies would be about continuing and spreading independence.

Snow White - MRS

Yeah, I know it isn't a real degree, but I feel like it's the only one Snow White would be able to get. She was a fairly useless Disney princess, in my opinion. Her only redeeming quality was that she was a good homemaker, something I am definitely not. She cleaned up for seven men while hiding from the bully queen who wanted her gone because she was too pretty. Then she waited for her prince to come kiss her awake. Total MRS degree seeker.

Mulan - Mechanical Engineering

Mulan was the only woman to join the war against the Huns, even if she did have to dress up like a man to do it. The most logical major for her would be mechanical engineering because of the large gender gap. Over 90% of mechanical engineering majors are male, even if that number has started to (slightly) shift to include more women over the last couple of years. Mulan was strong and capable, and her rooftop shenanigans and blasting the last bomb into the top of the mountain showed that she was resourceful and probably mathematically minded anyway

Pocahontas - International Studies

Pocahontas, the princess of a Native American tribe, traveled across the ocean to England with John Rolfe in "Pocahontas II" (also in real life). She learned all about their cultures, and then she returned to her homeland in America, bringing back everything she had learned during her time in Europe. *Side note: this is not what happened in real life, but the Disney version goes with this theme much better.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
