Have you ever complained that Netflix's movie selection isn't stellar? Thankfully, Netflix just announced that it will be streaming a whole new collection of Disney Movies coming September 2016. This fall, instead of scrolling through either two-star rated movies or films that you've never heard of, you can watch the newest Disney movies.
This past Thursday, Disney made the announcement that paid subscribers would have full access to these new films. To combat Netflix's underwhelming movie selection, this deal with Disney will make it the first time a selection of its films are available to a non-cable company. Ted Sarandos, the head of content for Netflix, wrote on the
company's
blog: “From September onwards, Netflix will become the exclusive U.S. pay TV home of the latest films from Disney, Marvel, Lucasfilm and Pixar." This Disney and Netflix partnership was solidified earlier with Netflix streaming the two Marvel series "Daredevil" and "Jessica Jones;" the relationship seems to continue growing in the right direction. It is rumored that this new deal cost Netflix around $300 million.
However, after the announcement was made, many Netflix viewers noticed that Disney movies such as "Hercules," "Dumbo" and "Mulan" were removed from the site. Not to worry, as these fan favorites will be available again this fall with the release of the new collection.
Although, this deal means that other services such as Amazon Prime and Starz, which also stream Disney movies, will not add Disney's newest films. For example, new releases such as "Captain America: Civil War," "Alice Through the Looking Glass" and "Zootopia" will only be available on Netflix.
Now, you can store away your 90's VHS tapes from your childhood and enjoy streaming Disney whenever you want. As we count down the days till the Disney release, here is a preview of the new movies coming to Netflix this summer to pass the time. Happy Binge Watching!
