"Finding Dory" wasn't the only Disney release you had to look forward to in the next two years. With a company as busy as Disney, there's 16 films to see between now and the end of 2018.
1. "Pete’s Dragon"
"Pete’s Dragon" is actually releasing on August 12, 2016. This is a remake of the 1977 Disney original movie, following the story of a young orphan named Pete and a dragon be befriends named Elliott. You might know the forest ranger character, Bryce Dallas Howard, as Hilly Holbrook from “The Help” or Victoria from the “Twilight” saga.
2. "Doctor Strange"
The big Marvel film of the fall (October 26th) is "Doctor Strange," starring Benedict Cumberbatch. In case you’re not familiar with the comics, the premise is that after Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch and a top neurosurgeon) is injured in a car accident he sets out on a journey of healing in which he learns mystic arts from his mentor, the Ancient One. There is controversy surrounding the movie though, with the lack of Asian people in a movie based on Asian culture, especially with the casting of Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One.
3. "Moana"
Disney’s animated film of the fall is "Moana," Disney’s 56th animated feature film. The plot is that in ancient Oceania in the South Pacific, Moana (the only daughter of a chief in a long line of navigators) sets sail to search for a fabled island. During her journey she teams up with Maui, a legendary demi-god who is voiced by Dwayne Johnson. This musical will be released November 23.
4. "Rogue One"
On December 16, the next "Star Wars" story will be released, with a plot set shortly before A New Hope, centering on a group of Rebel spies on a mission to steal the plans of the Galactic Empire’s new weapon, the Death Star.
5. "Beauty and the Beast"
Set to be released in 2017, Disney is recreating their 1991 classic animated film, "Beauty and the Beast." The cast includes Emma Watson, Ian McKellen, Luke Evans and Josh Gad.
6. "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2"
"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is set to be released in 2017 and is a sequel to the 2014 "Guardian of the Galaxy" film. The premise of the sequel is that the Guardians are traveling through the cosmos, struggling to keep their newfound family together, while helping Peter Quill (Chris Pratt’s character) learn more about his parentage.
7. "Cars 3"
The third installment in the "Cars" series is set to release in summer of 2017, focusing on Lightning McQueen as he participates in races around America with a new rival. The original cast will be voicing their characters in this film.
8. "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales"
The fifth installment of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series is set to release in 2017, starring Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow, Orlando Bloom as Will Turner, and Kaya Scodelario as Carina Smyth.
9. "Thor: Ragnarok"
The third Thor film will be released in 2017, and is expected to include an appearance from The Hulk. Filming on this film began in July in Australia.
10. "CoCo:
Based on the Mexican holiday, Dia de Muertos, "Coco" is set to release in November of 2017. It follows a 12-year-old boy named Miguel who sets off a chain of events related to a centuries old mystery. This computer-animated film is produced by Pixar.
11. "Star Wars VIII"
This film will follow "Star Wars: The Force Awakens", starring Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley and others. Filming ended on July 22 and the film will be out December 2017.
12. "Gigantic"
Disney is producing an adaptation of "Jack and the Beanstalk," in which Jack stumbled upon giants in the sky and befriends a 60-foot-tall girl. This film will be out March 2018.
13. "Black Panther"
The first standalone movie for Marvel’s Black Panther, starring Chadwick Boseman, will be out February 2018. The film also stars Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, and Stan Lee with a cameo.
14. "Avengers: Infinity War"
The next "Avengers" sequel will be a two-part movie, with the first part being "Infinity War," in May 2018.
15. "Star Wars" Spin-off number two
Still untitled, this Han Solo "Star Wars" anthology film is set to release in 2018. It’s centered on a young Han Solo (portrayed by Alden Ehrenreich) and features Chewbacca in an origin story for the two characters.
16. "Toy Story 4"
The fourth installment will come in 2018 and is being produced by Pixar. Focusing on Woody, Buzz, and their friends from Andy’s room, it explores them reuniting with Bo Peep.
