"The Great Movie Ride."
A beloved ride for generations. Located in Hollywood Studios, this air-conditioned ride recreates 12 iconic movie scenes, and even has someone hijacking the ride vehicle.
You enter through the recreation of the Chinese Theatre, and you get to peer into movie history. Inside are various glass cases filled with props and costumes from old movies, including the Dejarik board used on the Millennium Falcon in the original Star Wars.
As one of the original rides from the Disney-MGM Studio days, it is the last remaining ride from the park opening in 1989.
That is, until it closes on August 13, 2017.
It's an old ride, so it breaks down a lot. As one of the original rides from the park opening, and yes it may be the last of its kind, but that's okay! The older the ride, the more it breaks down. We should know that by spending our childhood playing Roller Coaster Tycoon.
They aren't replacing it just because of its break down record, but because in all of Disney, there are no rides featuring Mickey and Minnie.
None.
This is their chance.
With Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway, we are immersed into a Mickey Mouse short. Unfortunately, it's not the Mickey Mouse style we all know and love.
The past couple of years, designers have been working on a new style for them. One which is much closer to the original Mickey that Walt drew all those years ago. This new style and ride are changing the game at Disney.
Kevin Rafferty, a Walt Disney Imagineer, has said new technologies are being invented.
"This is one of the boldest...most impossible things I've ever worked on in almost 40 years of being an Imagineer. And you know what? That's what I love about it. This is not going to be a small attraction, it's going to be game-changing."
I, for one, hope this ride is done before Disney World's 50th anniversary, but who knows?
There isn't a release date set yet, so all we can do is wait and hope this new attraction will open up a new generation of Disney lovers.
