Like any other loyal sorority girl who has a Twitter account, it is our civic duty to follow Total Sorority Move (@totalsratmove). Lately, there have been endless Tweets about a new novel, "Dirty Rush." I was a little skeptical, at first, so I downloaded the sample. The foreword left me speechless and laughing, and I couldn't help myself, so I paid $11.99 for the entire thing. I read the book over the course of 12 hours. It's that good.
The foreword was written by Rebecca Martinson, coined as the "Deranged Sorority Girl" by many news stations for her explicit email to her Delta Gamma sorority sisters. Reading the email made me grateful that I had never received it, but I knew her heart was in the right place -- to help her sorority (kinda). The foreword set the tone for the entire novel, and definitely had me hooked from the first page.
Written by Taylor Bell, a third generation legacy in Beta Zeta at Central Delaware University, "Dirty Rush" is an honest, hold-nothing-back page-turner. Whether or not you have ever been involved in a dirty rush scandal does not matter at all. This book will have you laughing and muttering, "OMG, we do that, too!" about your sorority. Although these girls have had their fair share of cat fights, and deal with manipulation and drug use, this twisted tale was able to capture the bond that forms between sorority sisters (s'cute). No, a sorority is not all about the partying, boys, and "paying for your friends." There is a unique bond and love between sisters that is completely unexplainable unless you experience it for yourself.
Taylor had no intentions of joining a sorority at her school at all. She did not want anything to do with "those kinds of girls." She had full intentions of being her own person and finding her own activities to get involved in, separate from her third generation legacy label. Soon enough, though, she finds herself falling in love, surrounded by amazing sisters and proudly calling herself a BZ. When a sister becomes an enemy, a sex tape is leaked and coffins are strip-searched, Taylor is forced to go to war. The fate of BZ is in her hands.
If you want a quick read, a good laugh and have a love for raunchy language -- and sisterhood -- this book is for you.
