The '80s film, "Dirty Dancing" is without a doubt one of the most classic movies of all time. But have you ever wondered how Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze pulled off that infamous lift during "The Time of My Life."
The surprising answer was revealed by the actress, now starring in Amazon's comedy, "Red Oaks," in an interview with The Guardian.
"I only did it the day I shot it," Grey said. "Never rehearsed it, and never done it since. I don't know how all these people who reenact it have the guts to throw themselves into the arms of anyone other than Patrick Swayze. It's insane!"
That, it certainly is.
The move has been re-enacted thousands of times. As seen here on Ellen. Even Channing Tatum and his dog have had a go at it.
Grey was a competitor in 2010 during Season 11 of "Dancing with the Stars." When asked if anyone on the show ever requested her to do the dance move, she said, "how about every other day? It happened, enjoy it, watch it over and over again but never ask me to do it again because I'm too... old."
All that practice for "Dirty Dancing" must have paid off. That season, Grey and her dancing partner, Derek Hough, went on to win the mirror ball trophy.
She's a natural. No wonder she didn't need any practice with the lift!
