When reading the title of my article this week, you might question why a small metal circle valued at 10 cents could mean so much to someone like me or my family. But, there is a reason why dimes can instantly make me happy, and even make me cry, and that is my Grandma.
In order to understand why dimes make me so emotional, you will need to know the story behind it. If anyone was lucky enough to have met my Grandma Phillips before she passed, you would know how kind, loving, soft-spoken and beautiful she was. She was always caring to everyone, never was one to complain or speak negatively and you never saw her sad. There is not a person on Earth that did not love her. Her passing was a very emotional and sad time for all of us because she loved everybody. Now, since her passing, a very strange occurrence has been happening, and it all started at my Grandma's old house. This is where the dime comes into the story, because since her passing, my Aunt was finding one single dime laying around by itself in irregular places, and the conclusion was that this was my Grandmas way of talking to us from heaven. The rest of our family was skeptical to this, and we really didn't know if a dime could be her way of communicating to us and letting us know she was thinking about us. However, that was until my mom found her first dime in the car when she was cleaning it out.
I will admit, I still was a bit sketched out by this family theory, but, of course, I supported my mom when she would find dimes because it is an emotional reminder of someone we all loved and miss dearly. Although, like my mom and Aunt, I too found a dime one day, and I will say, it did choke me up and bring tears to my eyes because I finally felt the power of finding a dime that my Grandma had left for me. In my opinion, it really is not so much about it being a dime, it could be any trinket, but it is more about the thought of my grandmother leaving a gift for us to remind us of her love.
What made me want to tell this story was that today, August 12, my mom and I found not one, but four dimes in one day! Neither of us had placed them there for the other to find, it was just by chance that the dimes showed up, on a day that we needed a little bit of extra love, in which my grandmother was able to provide to us. Even if she has been gone for three years now, I know that the mark she left on me will never leave, and that I will always be reminded of her good grace every single day. Even though someone may not be a part of your life anymore, it by all means does not make the impact they had on your life disappear. I will love you forever and ever Grandma.
