Whether the distance is to another state, another country, or the opposite side of the world, these distances assemble obstacles for your friendship. The key is to stay strong and jump over them. I have a friend that lives in England, 3,792.76 miles away from me. I know the varying degrees of struggles long-distance friends face.
1. Responsibilities keep you apart.
Many of us have jobs and school that keep us busy and give us limited time for vacations. Seeing your friend becomes challenging due to these responsibilities. Don’t forget the lovely costs of gas and plane tickets.
2. You can't physically be there for each other.
We all run into those troubling times when we need our friend to talk to or to give us sympathy hugs. With such a distance, your friend can’t simply run over and be by your side, and you can’t do the same for them. This just ultimately sucks.
3. You can't make as many memories.
You can’t go shopping, have fun at a water park, or drive around aimlessly at night with them whenever you want to. You can’t go on all the adventures you have imagined until you reunite again. You don’t even get to celebrate birthdays together.
4. You have a greater chance of losing them.
If you ever get into a fight, you always make up ASAP for fear of losing them forever. You’re jealous their other friends can see them all the time, and you’re afraid they might take them away from you.
5. Saying goodbye is always the hardest.
You dread the day you must leave them again and wish you could just stay by their side forever. Saying your goodbyes are painstakingly hard as you know you won’t see them again for a while.
Though these difficulties are tough to manage at times, you know you’ll always get past them. You know you and your friend will always be there for each other no matter the distance. And you know the love you have for each other will be stronger than ever each time you leave.
