You Didn't Appreciate Me, But Someone Else Will

An Open Letter To The Person Who Took Me For Granted

You Didn't Appreciate Me, But Someone Else Will

To the boy who took me for granted,

It's sad that I'm writing this because it means that I lost someone who I really cared about.

You think you know who you're going to fall for, but it doesn't work that way. You can't control it; the person you fall for the hardest is always unexpected. And, you certainly came out of nowhere.

At first you were just like any other guy, but all of a sudden, it was like a spark ignited. Gradually, the flame between us grew stronger with each day. Slowly, you turned into the one, the one who was on my mind constantly, and the one who's smile lit up my world.

I admired you, all of your flaws, your quirks, and your dreams. I defended you, respected you, and appreciated you. But, that was never enough for you.

You took me for granted. You didn't notice the little things. You never saw the look of disappointment on my face when I received a message that wasn't from you. You never heard me defend you to people who talked badly about you. You couldn't feel the way my heart skipped a beat when I saw your smile. You never noticed how much I loved to see the excitement in your eyes when you told me a story. You never realized that I was there for you whenever you needed. You never saw me.

I was never good enough for you.

You built me up and tore me down. You made me feel like I was never going to be good enough for not only you, but anyone. I started questioning my own self-worth, and I felt like everything was my fault. You abused the feelings that I had for you, filled my head with lies, and led me to believe that you cared about me. As much as I thought you would change and as hard as I fought, you defeated me in the end.

I tried to see the best in people and in all situations. I used to be an optimist, an innocent girl, a naive girl who believed in fate and in true love. I believed in wishing on stars, and I believed in miracles.

I was a believer, and I believed that for once in my life, I was living the life I always dreamed of.

Then, along with my heart, my dreams were shattered into a million pieces.

The sorrow that I felt was unbearable, and it didn't magically go away. I've spent nights thinking about the past and going over what went wrong. My pillow has been drowned in tears. The agony was so intense that I felt as if I would never recover. I felt like I had lost a part of myself.

In the end, I learned to be the bigger person. I accepted the truth that you never told me, and I am stronger because of it.

Thank you. You have taught me to not let my guard down. I think twice before making decisions, and my heart is locked down stronger than it was before. I don't let people manipulate me anymore. I refuse to settle. Because of you, I have become a stronger woman.

Maybe one day you'll realize that you pushed the wrong person away. You'll see me and remember all of the things that I did for you. You'll see me truly happy, and it'll bother you. You'll be overwhelmed with regret when you see how much stronger I am. You'll realize that you should've been fighting to keep the optimistic girl that you pushed away instead.

You might have defeated me then, but I have defeated you now. Not only did you lose the fight, but you lost the one girl who genuinely cared for you.

- The girl you never appreciated

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
