Did you know that Jesus saves? That he loves each of us no matter our faults? That he died for all of our sins? Did you know that he has risen?
It’s almost time for one of my favorite holidays: Easter! What is better than candy, cute colored eggs, and most importantly celebrating my favorite person: Jesus. If you didn’t know already, he loves you. He doesn’t care who you are or what you’ve done; he just wants to have a personal relationship with you. So for my article this week, I decided to do a small but important breakdown of the resurrection of Jesus. It is by no means the full story, and I encourage you to read it if you haven’t, or even if you have. If you would like to read the scripture as a whole, it is in the New Testament in Luke, chapter twenty-four.
Now let’s all picture this: You’re going to pay your respects to a man you knew as your savior. However, you are surprised and confused when you reach the grave site. His tomb has been rolled away, and there is no body within it.
“And they entered in and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.” Luke 24:3.
Even better, he told you before he was sentenced to death, that he would rise again.
“The Son of man must be delivered unto the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day will rise again.” Luke 24:7.
And now, we get the opportunity to serve and worship him anytime that we desire, because he died for us.
“And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.” Luke 24:53.
Our Lord is truly astounding; he works in our interests and he has planned our life before we even existed. He is a man who was nailed to a cross and returned three days later as a promise to those who believe. He would suffer for all of us: children, adults, sinners, redeemed, etc. And he would do these things without placing blame, even on those torturing him.
“Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” Luke 23:34.
How many of us truly believe we could have that much love for the other? To ask forgiveness for other people, especially for those causing us pain? So here’s my challenge to you this Easter: try to do what our savior has always done. Be selfless. It is not easy, and none of us can constantly and completely do it, because we are not perfect. However, working hard to show those people around you what love is should really matter in the world today. Jesus is happy when we work according to his plan, so take a step back and think about what you can do to change someone’s day and maybe even someone’s life. And celebrate the fact that our savior rose and now because of him, we get to live the life we do.
Happy Easter!
