"My favorite part of the evening was actually playing our set because that is what we came here to do and that was a LOT of fun! Tonight, like John mentioned, people were really watching us which I love that energy!" - Derek

"It got REALLY intense for Valerie like that was great! Except for when you *gestures at Derek* kept slamming into me with your keys on your belt." - Morgan

"As a six-piece group, I will say that coming from the very DIY-scene where we are in this corner of a tiny room, it can be pretty tricky to fit us all on the stage." - John

"My favorite part of the evening was looking at my fellow band mates like damn these guys are killing it and it means the world to me that everyone is willing to drive hours to come out and play these out-of-town shows. These rehearsals paid off because tonight was one of the most solid performances from you guys." - Derek

"I made eye contact with Indy while performing tonight and it was like my first time listening to the Beatles." - Derek

"I feel like a Vaughn." - Morgan

"The band has evolved a lot in the last year. I would say that it really started with a recording project that I took on. I'm a very big picture person. And I start talking to other people like 'oh my god, this thing is awesome. Please come join.' As for the live performance aspect of it, it started with me, Dylan and Max. We played our first show as Derek Deon and the Vaughns about a year ago back in our hometown at an Irish pub." - Derek

"We had finished one single, so I said, 'it's time to start gigging!' Over the course of the year, we have recruited people, like we got Morgan, Ian, John, and Indy." - Derek

DerekPhoto by Ashley McMurray.

"In the beginning, it was a solo project. I kind of started wanting to play shows and then Dylan and Max. Then, we got John on lead guitar. Then, Morgan and Ian at the same time." - Derek

"Sometimes, I get frustrated. I look at time passing and think I should have way more done. But, at the same time, if you look at where we were a year ago and where we are now, it's a cool progression. I'm glad that we have more people who are down to be a part of the band. I really feel like the vision is a lot more fulfilled with the wonderful musicians that we have." - Derek

"The beautiful thing about live performance is the composition itself takes on a whole new form and it might have started as a solo recording project, hence, my name is in the band name. Super douchey, I admit. But, the truth is, Derek Deon and The Vaughns is a completely different experience than seeing me play an acoustic show alone." - Derek

"The band is this collaborative result of each and every one of the people who are a part of it. A lot of the songs we played tonight were written and developed as a collaborative effort. These songs haven't even been recorded yet. So, I feel like it's really become its own thing and I'm very grateful for that." - Derek

"It went from me, alone, rehearsing the same songs over and over again three years ago to 'Whoa! We have all this new sh*t and I like it a lot.' I'm really excited to record it." - Derek

"My passion for music is for recording. I love using a studio as a canvas." - Derek

"There is a severed unicorn head in the car. I've been playing with this stuffed animal head all night." - John

"Music makes me the happiest. If I'm not focused on something, it makes me incredibly anxious and overwhelmed, and music is one of those things that really helps. The process of recording, getting ready for a show, traveling. When you're 'doing' music, THAT'S the thing that's in front of you, and that you're focusing on. For me, that is just such a liberating trance when it's something that gives you direction and something to care about. If I could JUST play music all the time, then I would truly be a happy person." - Derek

"My mom makes me the happiest. I love her." - Morgan

"One time, I accidentally decided My Chemical Romance was my favorite band. To be fair, I was thirteen." - Derek

"I have actually obliterated emo from my life and I would like to keep it that way." - John

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
