My best friend and I have lived apart for practically four years now, and sometimes I wonder if absence really does make the heart grow fonder. Like all best friends, we have had our ups and downs. We have fought for hours about our different opinions, and we have complimented each other for even longer. But one thing is for sure, there are a few reasons why living apart from my best friend has made me love her more.
1. She’s always a text away.
With the advancement of technology, all I have to do to reach my best friend is text her. Sometimes she doesn’t respond, sometimes I don’t respond, but we always get around to it eventually.
2. She's (usually) great at giving advice.
When I feel like I have nowhere else to turn to, she is there with advice on what to do. Usually it’s fashion advice, but when it goes deeper than that, it’s even better.
3. She reinforces my better qualities.
When I get down on myself, she is the best person to talk to about it. My best friend will tell me all the things that make me great to reinforce my confidence, and it always helps when I’m feeling bad.
4. She calls me out on my B.S.
While she is one of the first people to tell me about my better qualities, she is also the first person to call me out on my bullshit. Let’s face it, we all make stupid mistakes, and our best friends are usually the first people to notice. It can be a good thing, and it helps me realize when I’m being stupid.
5. She calls me when I need to hear her voice telling me I’m an idiot.
Sometimes I just miss her so much, and when I need to hear her sage advice rather than read it in a text, she calls me. These calls brighten my mood instantly, even if all we talk about are the boys we like or the crippling amount of responsibilities we have.
6. She tells me I’m her “person.”
I think more than anything, one of my favorite things about my best friend is that she always calls me her “person.” If you’ve never watched "Grey's Anatomy," you wouldn’t understand. But at the end of the day it’s nice to know that I have someone that thinks so much of me to be their person, their best friend. No matter what, my best friend is amazing, and she’s always there for me when I need her. She was there yesterday, she was here today, and I know she’ll be here tomorrow.
