The Delta Gamma chapter at Texas Christian University is proud to announce that it will host the Martin Delta Gamma Lectureship
series on Oct. 22.
In 1999, TCU junior, Joelle Martin, proposed that the administration co-host a lectureship series. The administration agreed and in 2001, Delta
Gamma executive offices awarded TCU Delta Gamma’s the lectureship. The first TCU
Martin Delta Gamma Lectureship occurred in October 2001. The lectureships have
always focused on values and ethics. The last lectureship held at TCU was back
in 2009.
This year the Delta Gammas’ are proud to present another
lectureship with honorary speaker, Jerry Greenfield. Whose Jerry you might ask?
Well, you know that amazing ice cream brand called Ben & Jerry’s? Jerry Greenfield is the co-founder of this hugely successful business.
Greenfield will be speaking on entrepreneurial spirit,
social responsibility and radical business philosophy. Greenfield started his own business and grew
it into a successful enterprise. He will discuss how he did this, but
also what it means to be a good citizen and work ethically. And, yes, he will be
bringing free ice cream!
Robin Williamson, Director of Student Affairs, and Bunny
Shackelford, Delta Gamma’s communications advisor, selected Greenfield to come
speak. They heard that he had spoken at University of Texas, in the past, and that the event was extremely successful. This summer, Maddy
Bilder was also contacted about becoming Delta Gamma’s Director of Lectureship.
Bilder gladly accepted the position.
Bilder believes that all students should attend this event
because, “It is very applicable to college students. Jerry is talking about
entrepreneurial spirit and putting out a creative spirit. He is teaching an
outstanding philosophy. We are all going to college to learn about some type of
business whether that is nursing, engineering, marketing or accounting and what
Jerry has to say can real help us understand how to act and succeed in the work
place.”
The lectureship is free for all those who wish to attend. It
is open to TCU students, faculty and staff, as well the public. The lectureship will
take place on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. at the TCU Brown Lupton
University Union Ballroom.
If you have any questions, the Delta Gamma’s will be wearing
mint green t-shirts on the day of the event and will be happy to help you in
any way possible.
TCU and Delta Gamma would love to see as many people in attendance, as possible. Both organizations are excited to see what Greenfield has to say
and to connect with the student body, faculty and staff, and the local
community.
