Why Deleting Twitter Is The Best Decision I've Made

I'm living my life unplugged from the Twitter universe.

Just like with any social media, anyone can feel empowered by the strength of hiding behind a computer. No face to face conflict means they can say anything they desire without any seemingly real consequences. I mean, it is all over the internet, but they didn't really mean it. How could something written in 140 characters hurt someone? None of it should hurt that person, right? WRONG.

Whether they are spoken or typed, words can hurt. Society is so social media dependent that, especially with Twitter, anything can be said to any one person with a click of a button. It is a pretty easy way to target individuals and attack them. I have had some problems recently with my business being all over the internet without my consent. So I did the unthinkable for a teenage girl. I deleted my Twitter account.

Immediately, I felt relieved. No longer did I have the urge to be on my phone at all times trying to see what everyone was doing every second of the day. It gave me more time to reflect and try to better myself. Instead of trying to tweet about the great things that were occurring in my life, I was actually bathing in the greatness of that moment. I had made the mistake of letting Twitter dictate my life and that is why it had to go. It is such a great tool for many things, but instead of being a positive thing in my life, it was toxic and this was no one's fault but mine. My obsession with trying to tweet clever things for favorites or re-tweets got to my head and it resulted in me having negative thoughts that were consuming my energy. I started transforming in to someone that I did not like. I am a strong believer in that what you choose to surround yourself with will reflect in how you live your life. In order to live a positive lifestyle, I had to eliminate the things that were causing such negativity and pain in my life. The first to go: Twitter.

Now, will I ever use this form of social media again? Maybe. In life, timing is always a key factor and when the time is right, I will probably make a Twitter account, but only for the right reasons. For now, I crave living in the moment and totally being invested in what is going on around me and with whom I am sharing these moments with. No longer is my time spent on worrying about what is trending or what someone said about another person, but instead just relaxing. Days are spent with quality family time and going on walks with my friends. After all, I have been told that life is all about the little moments and I am excited to start enjoying them. I was scared at first to lose this part of myself but what is life without jumping and taking a risk?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
