Defying The Millennial Stereotype.

Not the average millennial.

I'm sure all of you have heard the runt about the millennial generation. We are the generation that was born between 1980's to the 2000's. We're also frequently labeled as being lazy, not having goals, and the partying generation. That may be true for some but it's unfair of you to label all the millennials that way. I'm considered a millennial and I don't fit the horrible labels that was thrown onto my generation.

1. I'm not Lazy

We're often labeled as being lazy and entitled to everything. This just isn't the case for me. I worked my butt off in school to achieve outstanding grades which in return earned me scholarships and grants for my future career. I also put in many hours at my job to be able to support myself. I did this all with little to no help. Nothing was given to me. I had nothing to "fall back" onto. I put all my eggs in one basket because that was my only option. The last thing I will ever be called is lazy.

2. I don't like to party.

I don't like to party. I just don't find enjoyment out of it. The atmosphere is just toxic which usually leads to a lot of regrettable choices. Please don't get me wrong, I do like to have a good time. My idea of partying and your idea of partying is most likely two completely different things. I like being around a small group of people of which you know most of their whole life stories. Clubbing and not remembering what you did last night just isn't for me.

3. I want to settle down.

I'm not the type of person who can just go from person to person. I like the idea of finding Mr. and or Mrs. right and sticking with that one person till the end. I want to get to married and I'm not going to waste my life waiting just because people say "we're too young to get married." Apparently you can only get married in your 30's. Who knew?

4. I'm responsible for myself.

I don't have the "privilege" like most of my generation does of relying on people if things go bad. I know that every single penny that I borrow for school, I will have to pay back. I'm also aware that if I fail out of my major, I won't get a good job which means I won't be able to pay back my outrageous student loans. I also know that if I ever got fired from my job, I wouldn't be able to pay my car payment which means my car would get taken away. Everything that happens in my life will effect me in one way or another.

5. Technology doesn't run my life.

I do love to stay up to date with my family and friends on Facebook and I do like to text my friends but it doesn't run my life. My generation has been known to text and drive which is completely idiotic. There has also been studies that show that millennials have been fired from their jobs over social media and technology. They're setting themselves up for failure but snapping that selfie.

I do admit that there is a lot wrong with my generation. However, there is some wrong with every generation. I just would appreciate it if we stopped using these stereotypes. Not everyone who is a millennial fits the typical stereotype.

Let's have a cheers to my fellow millennials who are just like me. Please continue to follow your dreams and goals and don't let anyone ever tell you that since your a millennial you are "blank." because stereotypes just don't exist here.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
