High School Musical was the definition of all our childhoods, and the year 2016 marks the 10th anniversary of the unforgettable trilogy. The seeming normal high school story (hint: it's not) entertained us for years with fun musical numbers and ships that have sailed for so long, they have been reported as lost at sea. Let us take a trip down memory lane with the huge throwback to see why this franchise was extraordinary.
1. “When There Was Me And You”
Oh honey, no. We were bored as we watched as the young and confused Vanessa Ann stumbles through her first breakup song. Where is the fast forward button?
2. “Right Here Right Now”
This song is one of the first glimpses Troyella romantic one-on-one time we see in the third movie, and I can’t help but feel slightly let down. Overall, this performance was not memorable
3. “Humuhumunukunukuapua’a”
As a child watching this song, nothing scared me more than Sharpay and her demonic thoughts.
4. “Scream”
Basketballs fall from the ceiling as Troy sings and dances out his frustration to the quiet empty school in the middle of the night. Nobody can deny Zac Efron’s sexiness, but musically, the song was not up to par.
5. “What Time Is It? (Reprise)”
Oh god, this song makes me want to rip out my hair. The first time it played, I was able to tolerate about the first 30 seconds, but the phrase “What time is it? Summer time” was repeated more than I could handle.
6. “I Want It All (Reprise)”
Musically and visually amazing. Not long enough. WE WANT MORE, RYAN!
7. “Right Here, Right Now (Reprise)”
I can’t even remember this song. I had to google it to remind myself, and I still could not remember it after watching it.
8. “Just Wanna Be With You (Sharpay Version)”
This was a trainwreck turned comedy, but watching the Troyella version and the Ryan-Kelsi version increased my expectations but a tenfold.
9. “Walk Away”
Vanessa Ann breakup song part 2. Mediocre.
10. “What Time Is It?”
11. “The Boys Are Back”
Troy and Chad dance around junkyard and it should not be impressive, yet their masculinity shines though.
12. “You Are The Music In Me (Sharpay Version)”
13. “A Night To Remember (Reprise)”
Who allowed this monstrosity to happen. This British crumpet needs to be put in line.
14. “Last Chance”
This is beautiful and so different from some of the songs in this series. But still... too short!
15. “All For One”
Yes. Yes. Yes. Things are starting too look up. Excuse me as I silently sing/scream the lyrics to this song.
16. “Can I Have This Dance (Reprise)”
Troyella feels make me cry. I cry a lot.
17. “Bop To The Top”
Another Sharpay-Ryan duet, but this one makes me “bop” my head. So catchy!
18. “Work This Out”
Who knew music in the kitchen could be so fun! I want to get up and dance with Troy, and help him convince everyone that this summer is going to be amazing even though it all goes downhill fast.
19. “You Are The Music In Me”
This song is music to my ears. Literally. But the whole song was Gabriella passionately singing the words to Troy (already memorized somehow) and Troy frantically reading sheet music. Oops.
20. “What I’ve Been Looking For (Reprise)”
This is it. Their first audition. Personally, I was more impressed by the Sharpay-Ryan duet, but still props to you Troyella.
21. “What I’ve Been Looking For”
21. “Can I Have This Dance?”
22. “I Want It All”
Preach, Sharpay, preach. This is the moment in which I finally resonated with Sharpay. Also, the fact that this all fit into the magical East High cafeteria astounds me, but I’m not questioning anything.
23. “The Start Of Something New”
This is the beginning. I want to hug that guy who says that someday Troy and Gabriella will thank him. I THANK YOU KARAOKE HOST. I THANK YOU WHOLE HEARTEDLY.
24. “Just Wanna Be With You”
The moment I saw Ryan and Kelsi sing this song together, I had the epiphany that they were a perfect couple. Also Troyella playing with pain... I can't.
25. “High School Musical”
Classic. No questions.
26. “I Don’t Dance”
This song gave me my much needed Chad and Ryan. Also, at the end Chad and Ryan have switched outfits, so we all know what happened there. This number was a home run.
27. “We’re All In This Together (Graduation Mix)”
Did I cry? Maybe.
28. “Get’cha Head In The Game”
Get’cha. Get’cha head in the game. Gotta get’cha get’cha get’cha get’cha head in the game. This is the song that introduced us to the wildcats. Enough said.
29. Now or Never (Reprise)
This is sassy, catchy version of an already amazing song has us dancing in our seats. Also DANCE, MARTHA, DANCE GIRL.
30. “Bet On It”
This song is just embodies who Troy Bolton is, and as he stares at his reflection we all reevaluated our lives. Let’s be honest.
31. “Stick To The Status Quo”
Again, the magic of the East High cafeteria has graced us once more.
32. “Fabulous”
Iconic. I have no words for this song.
33. “Everyday”
You know the moment when Gabriella starts singing in her beautiful angelic voice, and Troy knows that it’s her and frantically starts looking around? That is the moment I believed that true love existed-- at least in the movies.
34. “Breaking Free”
This song is all that they have worked for. The jocks can’t help but rise to their feet, and Coach Bolton and Momma Montez finally accept their children.
35. “A Night To Remember”
Best prom musical number ever. No questions.
36. "Now or Never"
Watching Gabriella rise from the crowds like an angel and sing words of encouragement to Troy made me feel all the feels.
37. “Just Wanna Be With You (Final 4. Performance)”
38. “Gotta Go My Own Way”
YES! YES! VANESSA ANN. THIS IS THE BREAKUP SONG WE HAVE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR. This song is one of the most beautiful songs on all HSM tracks.
39. "We’re All In This Together”
Yes. We are all in this together. I love you East High. WHAT TEAM? WILDCATS.
