The Definitive Party Playlist – Draft One
The nation’s top scientists have spent many years researching what is widely considered to be the perfect party playlist. And they think they are moderately close. Without farther preface, here is the first draft of the perfect party playlist.
The Classics: Opening
- December, 1963 (Oh What A Night) – Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons
- Come On Eileen – Dexy’s Midnight Runners
- Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off – Joe Nichols
- Gin And Juice – Snoop Dogg
- Big Poppa – The Notorious B.I.G
This first batch of songs has to be well known. These are staples of any good night… They’re called classics for a reason, everyone knows them, and everyone loves them. By playing these you allow your guests to feel comfortable. Now song #3 is a wildcard, I’m not going to lie… it’s been out for a decade, and it helps set the mood, but it is important to read the room before adding it.
Transition Game
- The Next Episode – Dr. Dre
- Snap Yo Fingers – Lil Jon
- Pursuit of Happiness (Extended Steve Aoki Remix) – Kid Cudi
- Turn Down for What – Lil Jon
- Feel Good Inc – Gorillaz
- Pump It – Black Eyed Peas
This section is heavy in the Lil Jon, and that’s essential. Lil Jon establishes exactly what sort of party it is. No one sits in the corner drinking wine at a Lil Jon Party. This is also the first inclusion of music from the mid-2000’s. Music from the mid 2000’s was the shit – this is an idea that will be revisited. When this section ends, people are ready to rage. Which brings us to…
Middle School Dance
- Smack That (Dirty) – Akon
- Ride Wit Me – Nelly
- Ignition (Remix) – R. Kelly
- Hips Don’t Lie – Shakira
- Buy You a Drank – T. Pain
- Yeah! – Usher
- DONTTRUSTME – 3OH!3
- Hot Mess – Cobra Starship
- Hey Yeah! (Radio Mix/Club Mix) – OutKast
- Tik ToK – Kesha
You know what went hand in hand with music from the mid-2000’s, middle school dances. Middle school dances were where life peaked. Do you remember that feeling the first time you grinded? Do you remember how awkwardly fantastic it was!? Well this playlist wants to take you back to that feeling of euphoria you had in 7th grade. Only now your acne is gone and you’re getting laid.
The Grind House/ Find Yo Partner n’ Get Dirty
- What’s Your Fantasy – Ludacris
- Timber – Kesha
- London Bridge – Fergie
- Gold Digger – Kanye West
- Beamer Benz or Bentley – Lloyd Banks
- Candy Shop – 50 Cent
- The New Workout Plan – Kanye West
- Work Out – J. Cole
- Pimpin’ All Over The World – Ludacris
- P.I.M.P – 50 Cent
- How Low – Ludacris
You’ll notice this section is primarly Luda, 50 Cent and Kanye… that’s because those are the big three for getting a party dirty. That’s straight undisputable science. By the end of this section you know if you’re leaving the party alone or not…
Transition Game Part II – The Closers
- Shut Up and Dance – Walk The Moon
- Global Concepts – Robert Delong
- Doses and Mimosas – Variable D
- SexyBack – Justin Timberlake
- Summer Love – Justin Timberlake
This is where we start indicating that maybe it’s time to get out
GTFO
- Piano Man – Billy Joel
- Closing Time – Semisonic
- Thunder Road – Bruce Springsteen
- For The Longest Time – Billy Joel
- Don’t Stop Believing - Journey
This is the best way to officially kick people out… they should have the idea by the Closing Time, but if they stay for a raucous chorus of the next three songs then the party can honestly be considered the best ever.
