Everyone has seen or at least heard of a psychic whether it be in a movie or while they were driving around town, but did you know that each psychic has a different set of abilities? There are quite a few different abilities but I've done some research on the four main types of psychic abilities in honor of National Psychic Week.

For all of you That's So Raven fans, clairvoyance is up first. Sorry to disappoint you all, but psychics who are clairvoyant don't always see the future or have the exaggerated visions like you see in the movies. Clairvoyants will typically see something small like a number or symbol and just because they see them doesn't mean they know what the object actually means. This being said, they do sometimes have premonitions of an event.

Next is clairsentience. This is a person's ability to feel clearly. Those who experience clairsentience are able to receive messages from a person based off of their feelings, emotions, and physical sensations. There is definitely a downside to this form of psychic ability though. If people around you are feeling drained or tired, you may begin to feel the same way because you're picking up so strongly on their bad vibes.

My personal favorite is clairaudience. If a psychic is clairaudient they can hear sounds that others can't. A medium is a perfect example of someone who is clairaudient because they can hear spirit voices. Mediums say they will hear the person who has passed speaking in their head, but it will be in the voice of the medium rather than that of the person who has passed. I don't know about the rest of you, but that's pretty cool to me. Being clairaudient is also described as having an inner hearing. It's the little voice inside of you that gives you commands.

The fourth and final psychic ability I researched was claircognizance. This is one's ability to know something without having any knowledge or facts behind the knowing. It is often described as an inner knowing. An example would be when you feel you shouldn't do something, but you don't know why you shouldn't do it. You just know you shouldn't put yourself into the situation.

All of these abilities are pretty cool, but what psychics really want you to take away is that you can receive messages in many different ways. Sure, you could get a phone call and find out some information, but you could also get a message on Facebook to receive that same information. Understanding that concept is the first step into understanding one's own psyche.
