Life itself is difficult, but life in college is a different breed. We are constantly doing whatever we can to get to the next class and obtain the credit necessary to progress to the next class standing. Although it's quite the climb, there are many things that we could all easily relate to that we experience along the way.

1. Searching for an internship

Internships! What a time, we all love to search for something that we can do over the summer or during our time at school. Yet, the difficulty comes with finding something that works with your schedule as well as within your time frame. Even though it's a difficult search, the end result makes it all worth it!

2. Needing to make food for yourself, CONSTANTLY

GIPHY

Food, the most important resource for any college student trying to succeed at whatever it is that their major is. We all run on food, it's true and absolutely no one can deny it. Starbucks or frozen dinners, whatever makes your stomach satisfied is the absolute move for the day.

3. Experiencing new, unexpected weather

GIPHY

Whether or not it's summer all year or winter everyday, you're bound to go through some type of weather change as a college student. You may have definitely packed the wrong clothes or you're just completely over the heat or snow. No matter what you get it might be a shock to you, always be prepared for any weather!

4. Having an overload of homework

GIPHY

Homework! Everyone's favorite activity to partake in after class, we all love going back to our dorms or apartments after a long day and working even more! Yeah, nope homework is even more difficult in college because you have to actually remember what you did in class. If you're a snoozer and you fall asleep at every lecture, you better be careful!

5. Procrastinating, 24/7

GIPHY

Procrastination, we love it and we've all experienced it at least once in our lives. Every day brings a new challenge and task to do which could be difficult or easy. Either or it's still a task and there are so many distractions that make it simple to not focus on what needs to be done at hand. If you're a true college student, your procrastination probably hits the hardest at night, usually a bit after 1 a.m.

6. Putting yourself out there to make new friends

GIPHY

Yes, we are getting deep here, making friends could sometimes be difficult when you're constantly doing homework or just a shy person. We all need to remember to be nice to each other and create a space to allow for these friendships to be made. Maybe smile or say hi to someone tomorrow, or don't but if you're not nice you won't receive the same treatment back!

7. Feeling lost sometimes, in such a crowded space

GIPHY

It's so simple to feel as if there are so many people in such a small or large space and it could become so overwhelming. With so many different people from various walks of the earth, you're bound to clash with others and keep to yourself a bit. Just know that everyone is feeling somewhat similar as there is so much going on, and there's no need to feel bad about that.

8. Feeling confident when your grades aren't so hot

GIPHY

Grades should not necessarily define the overall performance of the student, but unfortunately that's just the way that college works. It's so easy to beat yourself up about bad grades or even just a slip in a class that you might love, but doing that does not help your overall morale. So try your absolute best to not be so hard on yourself and take it slow, do your thing!

9. Leaving and coming back home to your family

GIPHY

Ohana, no this is not Lilo and Stitch but family is so important and will always be such a major part of who you are as well as who you will always be. Leaving home and going to a college with all of your current and soon to be friends could be extremely difficult, and it doesn't necessarily get easier. But, it does show growth and courage to do something so bold and make a change in your own life. Your family will always be with you, even if it's not physically.

10. Staying active and working out

Alright, let's talk about the elephant in the room, the freshman 15! We all know what this is but let's be real with the fact that this doesn't just happen to freshmen. Every year you are surrounded by so much food and so many people who want to get food with you. How do you say no that? Friends and food, always a move.

So yes college has its great moments, but there are also the ones that we don't necessarily understand or process due to what we might be going through. It's okay to have bad moments because there are so many that will occur in the future and be good. We tend to hold on to the negativity and focus on why we are hurting rather than fixing the actual problem and figuring out ways to feel better. It might seem impossible sometimes, but there is always a way to do something you love and be with the people you care about. Even if it's not in person, there's always a tie that you have with the people you want in your life and the qualities you seek in the future.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
