Dear little sis,
When Mom and Dad first told me I was going to have a younger sister I was so excited. I spent days carrying around a baby doll practicing all of my soon-to-be sisterly duties. I was even convinced on the perfect name for you, though we both know that didn’t work out so well. Fast forward a few years and I know have a beautiful younger sister who is spontaneous, smart, and of course, hilarious. Although I may not be around all of the time to watch you grow up, I will always be there for you when you need me. Here are a couple of the promises I will make to you.
I promise to help you through your first heartbreak. Although it is a terrible part of life, heartbreak is inevitable. We have all been through it at some point and I will be there for you with ice cream and a funny movie when it happens. Whoever the guy is, they definitely aren’t good enough for you anyways. You are a very special person and a truly exceptional guy will be worthy of your love.
I promise to always help you do your hair and make-up. Whether you need a special bun for your recital or braids for your competitions, I will always have your back. When it comes time for you to start wearing real make-up, don’t worry, I’ll show you how that works too so you don’t make some of the same mistakes I’ve made. Having an older sister is basically having a built in stylist, and I am happy to take on the responsibility.
I promise to take you out to lunch. Though this may not seem like much, I am away at college for 8 months out of the year. I miss a lot of things that go on in your crazy world. No matter what I will always make time for you when I come home for winter break or summer vacation to hear about what is going on in your life and tell you all about mine.
I promise to always stand up for you. Life can be tough and people can be mean, but I will always be there for you. Whether you just need some advice or someone to be on your side you can call me. You have a heart of gold and anyone who tries to upset you will have me to answer to.
I am so lucky to have a younger sister who reminds me so much of myself. It is crazy how much you have grown throughout the years and how you continue to impress me. You are becoming such a kind, beautiful, and ambitious teenager. Don’t ever let anyone take away that sparkle in your eyes. Keep doing what makes you happy and remember that you will always have me to lean on.
