Dear Younger Siblings...

An open letter to my younger siblings.

Dear Younger Siblings...

Dear younger siblings,

Let me start by saying that leaving you guys for college was very hard. Even though we joked saying we "couldn't wait" for me to leave, it's weird not having someone constantly running around annoying me. I mean that was your job since you came into this world, right? But more specifically:

Sister: As you continue through middle school, and soon start high school, don't let the petty girl drama bother you the way it did me. Yes, have your best friend, but don't worry too much about all those other girls. Don't worry about who had a sleepover this weekend, and who didn't invite who. Have a movie night with Mom if you weren't invited. Those without me are the best, right? I mean, I'm not there to argue with you on what movie to watch.

Brother: Over the last couple of years you have grown so much, and watching you succeed in school the way you have makes me so proud. I'd like to think that the nights we would sit at the kitchen table and I would help you with your homework have contributed to where you are now, but I'm not going to take the credit for your hard work.

Sister: As you to continue to grow (please stop) I promise to always pass my clothes down to you. I mean, you already do raid my closet when I am home. But I, also, promise to help you in whatever situation you need. Whether it be school, boys, friends, anything. You know you can always call me.

Brother: I hope you eventually cut off the long blonde locks, even if it isn't for awhile. I hope you grow to love tennis, golf and/or the school musicals the way your brother loves lacrosse. You only started a couple months ago and you're already doing so great at them all. But I do promise to always out-eat you in spicy food, although over the next couple of years you will probably be crushing me.

Both: I promise to never miss your first homecoming or your senior prom, no matter what I have going on at school. Even though by the time you're both seniors in high school, I will be graduated and hopefully have my own place and a nice job. I promise to help you through the situations that you won't necessarily see Mom or Dad's side of, because I can tell you, I have been there.

But mostly out of this, I would like to thank you. Although it doesn't seem like it, you guys have taught me more than you think. Before both of you, I was the youngest and the only girl. I never had to share my clothes, never had to help anyone (I was still the one being helped) and I never really had any sort of responsibilities. You both taught me how to deal with people who were driving me nuts and laughing in my face about it. Doing life here without you guys at college seemed like a great time, but I miss you both more than you know every day.

I can't wait to continue to watch you guys grow up, and always support both of you like you always did me. I can't wait to send you both off to college, and watch how successful you both become. But most of all, I can't wait to see you on my next break and annoy you guys like you always annoyed me!

Love,

Your big sister!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
