Dear Taylor Swift,
I know that you will probably never see this, but I feel as a woman I have to apologize to you. I know that I did nothing wrong, but I feel so awful and guilty that society continues to treat you so horribly, especially now. First off, I just want to say that I am so sorry that you were a victim of a sexual assault. I can’t fathom how awful that must have been and how scared you were in that moment, and still probably are. I also want to say that it disgusts me that only a few to no celebrities have shown their support to you. Yes, I know that I should not be the one that has to apologize because I do not have the same platform as important people, and this does not involve me at all, but I feel like I have to do something about this nonsense.
I am so sorry that the so called feminists of Hollywood are nowhere to be seen in your time of need. Not even Emma Watson, the Global Goodwill Ambassador of the UN and one of the founder of HeForShe has spoken about this issue at all. You have such great friends like Jamie King, Kesha, and Ellen DeGeneres who have shown you their support. I admire your friend group (or should I say squad) so much and I hope you guys stay close for many years to come. I just wish more people could have shown you support. But if you happen to see this letter, I hope you know that I have supported you from the beginning and especially now. I will do everything in my power (the little that I have) to help and educate people that even celebrities like you can be a victim in a sexual assault incident.
I just don’t understand how a sweet, educated, loving person like you could have so many haters. You have given so much money to countless charities, spoken up for something that you felt was wrong, and even gave Kesha $250,000 to help her during her sexual assault case. Yet, people still think that is not enough. “Well maybe if she spoke up about sexual assault instead of giving her money,” You do speak out about that, as you are right now because you are directly involved in it. “Well maybe if she went to the Women’s March instead of just tweeting about it,” There are many reasons why you may not have been there and you never should have to feel like you have to apologize for not going to something. Maybe you felt that going would take away the purpose of the event. That all eyes would be on you instead of the march. So I like to think that you were being selfless to not go to that march. But for whatever reason it was that you were not able to attend gave people no rights for hating you for not going. Kendall Jenner, Kim Kardashian, and Jennifer Lawrence, who all claim to be feminists and are, did not attend yet people did not give them sh*t for it. To their eyes, everything you do or say is wrong but please do not listen to those nasty people.
I also want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart! Thank you for showing that sexual assault can happen to ANYONE, even a mega star like you. Also, you are not just a role model to me, but to a lot of people of there by showing us to speak and stand up against something like this. You have shown many people that it is more than okay to come forward. You have shown people not to be scared and humiliated to come forward. By having the trail not be about money but about awareness speaks volume. You have shown the world that you care less about the money apart and more that you wanted to bring awareness that this happens a lot.
YOU are fearless and YOU are strong and I know you will get past this. Now please go and write a killer song like I know you will, I miss you!
Love your biggest supporter,
Aubrey
