Dear Spring

I'm sick of Winter’s freezing temperatures and lack of sun, so can you please hurry up?

Oftentimes, seasonal depression hits people in the wintertime. After a month or two of cold weather, many people grow tired of dreary days and cold weather. The joys of seeing snow and celebrating the holidays are quickly replaced with short days and miserable walks outside. Winter has had its time; now bring on the warmer weather!

Dear Spring,

1. I need daytime to last longer.

Nine hours of daylight is not enough. When the sun sets at 4 p.m., I feel like my whole day is over. I’m less productive, sleepier and a lot less motivated toward the end of the day. I really need the sun to stay up longer so I can stay up and get things done.

2. I’m sick of dry skin.

Winter always leaves my skin dry and dull. I need more moisture in the air so my skin can get back to its healthy, glowing self.

3. I don’t like being cold-yet-sweaty from so many layers.

When I venture outside and finally reach my destination, I hate feeling cold and sweaty at the same time. Having to wear so many layers is annoying and leaves me feeling kind of gross.

4. I miss rolling down the windows.

When I’m driving, or even when I’m in my room, I enjoy a pleasant breeze while I’m listening to music or studying. I’ve gone a few months without open windows and I’m going through symptoms of withdrawal. I need opened windows back in my life.

5. I need more options for going out.

In the wintertime, the list of things to do greatly diminishes. I’m limited to indoor activities which can get boring and repetitive. I want to be able to go outside and explore outdoor activities again, even if that just means going for a walk.

6. My food options are limited.

If you’re a college student, your food options are likely limited to a couple dining halls closest to you. Walking far isn’t worth it anymore. If you’re not a college student, it’s still hard to find motivation to go to the grocery store. Leaving the house, warming up the car and eventually lugging all the groceries inside is too much of a task.

7. I miss the color green.

I miss grass, trees and flowers. Frankly, I miss all signs of life. I want to see everything blooming again, hear birds chirping and see squirrels running around.

8. I’d like to switch from wearing bulky sweaters to cute short-sleeve shirts.

I miss my Spring clothes. With warmer weather comes more clothing options, and cute sandals as well. I want to stop wearing the same winter outfits and move on to different options.

9. I want everyone to stop getting sick.

I know Spring brings about allergies, but at least that’s not contagious. I’m tired of people constantly getting sick and spreading it to others. We all need to get outside and get some fresh air.

10. Please hurry, because after Spring comes Summer.

I’m not ready for summer just yet, but soon I’ll be wishing for it. For a lot of students, summer means a break from school stress. It also means hanging out with friends and family more, swimming and going on fun trips, all of which sound great. I guess I’ll just have to keep this in mind as I get through these last couple months of cold weather.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
