After driving from Waco to Houston for almost four hours (thank you Houston traffic), I walked through the door to my childhood home and saw no one.
That's right. Neither one of my siblings were there to greet me, their fearless leader, as I arrived home from the semester. So, this is payback, you goobers. Prepare yourselves.
Dear Younger Siblings,
Here is a list of things you should always keep in mind.
I will always sing Disney songs with you and have Disney movie marathons with you. However, if you pull that stunt of watching the Lion King at 5 a.m. every morning this summer, I will end you. I'm being 110 percent serious right now. I do not want to wake up to the "Circle of Life" unless it is well after 10 a.m.
I will always consider you both to be shorter than me. Therefore, I will always be confused when you're suddenly taller than me. Y'all are my armrests; why are you growing? Your height is perfect when it's shorter than 5'6".
I will always try to be louder than you, whether by singing, talking, or even walking, I will be the loudest. It comes with being the oldest, I get to be the loudest. However, if you best me (IF), I will graciously accept defeat. Then I will go find a foghorn and win again.
I will always be there to encourage you when you're feeling down, but I will also make sure to keep your ego in check. To be honest, y'all are divas and it's solely because I taught you to act like that. We are hashbrown, flawless.
I will always be there to protect you from bullies; the only person who can ever be mean to you is me and that's only because I'm joking when I call you a nerd. Remember that if anyone is ever mean or disrespectful to you, it's most likely because they're jealous of you. Treat them with the pity they deserve (which is none, being jealous doesn't give them the right to be rude).
I hope you both always know how much I love you, even when you gang up on me. You two have been my partners-in-crime even before we could spell 'partners.' From hiding under our beds, to playing on our Gameboys after mom told us to turn them off, to dressing up our dog, and to stealing one of the crazy cat lady's cats, y'all have always been there to get into indescribable amounts of trouble with me.
Y'all are always going to be my younger siblings, and I will always be thankful that I'm your older sister. I can't wait to be the crazy aunt of the family and randomly give your future children puppies and kittens just so they'll like me more than you.
Growing up with y'all has been fun, and I can't wait to continue growing with y'all.
Your fearless leader,
Corinne
