Can Doesn't Mean Should

8
Dear Pinterest

I'm sure we've all had those brilliant moments where we see a Pinterest tab saying something about a DIY (Do It Yourself) Activity for a season or holiday or birthday and you stop and think, I CAN DO IT. There should be a rule book, and I think that there just might be one that says, JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN DOESN'T MEAN YOU SHOULD!!!

My mom and dad work a lot, and don't get me wrong, I work, but not as much as them. I mean my dad pulls 90 hour weeks typically, and for some reason, 35 hours just doesn't compete. ANYWAYS. I get a lot of free time around my house, and you can only do so much cleaning before you want to have a little fun. And in my case Pinterest is a giant center of ideas you never knew you didn't have. Believe me, if you have 4 paper clips, a paper towel roll, some cotton balls, some glitter glue, and an imagination then Pinterest is the place for you.

I mean really, this website covers makeup, decor, fashion, music, you name it, it is on there. But the huge draw to it, is the fact that it is a social media platform designed with little tutorial's that show you how you can do the things that are being shown. It shows how you can break something down into a simple process, that you can be proud of. It brings out a creative streak in people. And although things may be broken down and made to seem like something really anyone can do, you should remember: Just because you CAN, doesn't mean you SHOULD.

Unfortunately, in my case, it usually turns into me pulling out 8,000 different items and making up this glorious plan to make something great, and then once i actually sit down, i realize that i can't do it, or it comes out looking absolutely nothing like it was supposed to . However, I can also assume that I really don't have it that bad, because I have seen videos where girls try to re-create a hair tutorial and then light their hair on fire so I mean, I guess me wasting my moms crafting supplies really isn't the end of the world.

It is probably just my opinion but if I were you, and you were on Pinterest, I would double check that I was 110% sure that I knew what my limits and capabilities were before I went crazy with it. And don't go getting discouraged, the people who POST those pictures, are like literal artists who spend their whole days doing these things, so don't beat yourselves up. If you want to paint some mason jars & fill 'em with candy, check out Iinterest and go nuts. But if you're trying to tackle a bigger project, just remember;

JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN.....DOESN'T ALWAYS MEAN YOU SHOULD

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
