Dear Older Sisters
Caroline Hernandez

Dear older sister,

I sit here nervously tapping on my keyboard, dissecting my brain and attempting to piece together how to even begin this letter. The role you take on is so tremendously important, that I fear missing something crucial and not giving you the recognition you so rightfully deserve. I could list the things that I’m thankful for but I would be writing for the rest of my life. So instead, I’ll take you back to where it all began.

You were my first friend, my best friend, and my eternal friend. You took me under your wing and let me follow you around everywhere, even though I knew it annoyed you sometimes (or all the time). You taught me everything I know and continue to teach me today. Even when the lessons are those I don’t want to endure, it’s always okay, because you are with me every step of the way.

When we were kids, getting into trouble was our specialty, so in a sense, you are my “partner in crime.” Whether it was staying up past our bedtime jumping from bed to bed hoping our parents didn’t hear us, or messing with our mom, you were always the one to take the blame, because that was your initial instinct, to protect me.

You taught me how to fight and stand up for myself, and I had a lot of practice with that with you. We fought like we were sworn enemies and yelled at each other so loud that our ears felt like they were bleeding, just to make up ten minutes later because we had a funny story to tell each other. So, you taught me not to hold grudges and to not waste my time being mad because I can’t get that time back.

I know sometimes you think that all of those things go unnoticed, but you have no idea how eternally grateful I am to have you in my life. And I know I take that for granted sometimes, but I am sorry.

I’m sorry for taking your clothes without asking, using your brush and not putting it back, leaving our room really messy sometimes, and messing up your bed when I would sit on it. I’m sorry for not realizing your importance and not appreciating it all the time. You are the only person who understands me and still wants to spend time with me every second of every day, and for that, I thank you.

You are the best friend I will ever have and you will never know how important you are to me. Thank you for being a shoulder to cry on, an arm to punch, a person to laugh with, and the best sister I could’ve ever asked for. From the bottom of my heart, thank you, for everything.

Love always,

Lexi

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
