Dear Negative Nancy

No wonder life is kicking your butt.

Dear Negative Nancy
Tess D Terrell

We as a society are constantly searching for something more, something bigger and better than what the Lord has placed before us. We dream of large expanses of land, expensive sports cars, and piles of cash when we should be thankful for the food on our tables and old shoes at our feet. We should think positively and believe that we will be able to meet our next car payment on time and gain the next promotion offered at the office because God will always provide. Our savior will forever place exactly what we need in front of us if we simply remain positive and faithful.

Given, the task of remaining positive for all eternity is quite impossible, but nobody is asking for that of you or anyone else. God created each individual differently and unique in their own way. All that is expected of God's people is that they spread the word of the Lord through faith and positivity. This is something that I have learned recently and struggle with daily.

We are often placed in situations where we feel as if there is little to no hope. We may be surrounded by people that drag us down and fail to uplift our spirits in our time of need. I have found myself in dark and dreary corners and lost my way. I have grown negative due to the people within my world. People that instantly wipe the smile from my lips and shine from my eyes. This is no way to live life, and the Lord expects us to fight through the downward spiral and claw our way to the top.

This is for my audience who may be in a rocky patch and in need of a positive word of wisdom!

Dear Negative Nancy,

Maybe life has knocked you off your game and every single day this week has felt like a Monday on replay. Maybe you lost the keys to the car, got caught in the rain the one day you left your umbrella at home, and drove to work without the very file you needed in order to complete that late paperwork on your desk. Maybe in the process of these terrible, no good, very bad incidents you have slumped your shoulders, rolled yours eyes, cursed aloud, failed to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and prayed not nearly enough. Well, no wonder life is kicking your butt.

When your heart is breaking or your tire is flat on a hot, sunny day in the middle of nowhere, think of the bright side. Put a smile on your face and remember that absolutely everything happens for a reason. There was a reason you tripped and fell at school or lost your wallet; maybe your one true love will lift you up from the cold ground or find every dime you lost, but you may never know if you fail to think positively!

God had hopes that his people would always remain faithful and positive, especially in their time of need. So, Negative Nancy, lace up your shoes, step outside into the sunshine, and smile, because something great is about to happen. Something amazing is awaiting you at the end of your long journey because God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers. Take this from someone that has been down this road many times; think positively and faithfully, people, or life will continue to kick your butt.

"You can pray for anything, and if you have faith, you will receive it." - Matthew 21:22

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
