From possibly your biggest fan of all time, Where art thou Mumford & Sons? “I Will Wait” for you, but I am beginning to lose just the teeniest, tiniest bit of patience. Your albums, “Babel” and “Sigh No More” have been on replay on one of my Spotify playlists since “Sigh No More” came out in 2009 and “Babel” came out in 2012. And I promise you I could recite every single lyric to each and every song on both albums. But now it is 2014 and 2015 is creeping up on us with each and every fall day and I think the general public could use some of your British folk rock therapy to calm everyone down with all the different Ebola end of the world theories.
In September of 2013, Mumford announced that they would be taking a break for a good amount of time and Ben Lovett, the keyboardist told Rolling Stone in an interview that, "There won't be any Mumford & Sons activities for the foreseeable future.”
This was understandable considering their 2013 continuous world tour resulted with bassist, Ted Dwane checking himself into the hospital after their concert in Austin, with the discovery of a blood clot on the surface of his brain. With surgery he easily recovered, but the blood clot and surgery unfortunately caused the band to cancel the rest of their Summer Stampede Tour, only reappearing near the end of summer at Glastonbury, Lollapalooza and a five stopover cities until mid September.
Six months after declaring they were on a break to just hang out, rest, and live life normally for a bit, there were rumors of the band splitting up… Sorry if I just made your hearts drop for a second, but no worries, the speculations were simply just rumors. NME magazine discovered in an interview with frontman Marcus Mumford that he would even jokingly respond “yes” to the question if the band had split up or not so they can, “have a big comeback tour next year!"
Splitting up rumors were certainly laid to rest this past summer when Lovett confirmed to The Sun that they were currently working on a third album, but they are still very early workings. He also revealed that a release date and other details about the album are being kept secret to minimize the pressure on the band. Even so, I think it is safe to assume we will hopefully be seeing this new album sometime in the new year. But how sweet, they do not want to let us down! Even though I am certain there is no way they possibly ever could.
But despite the hush hush over the new album, the world we live in always wants to speculate and gossip or else life would be a bit dull, wouldn’t it? So recent rumors have left us Mumford fans believing that the band has recently paired up with James Ford, the producer for Arctic Monkeys and HAIM for their third album. Interesting…
Well Mumford you have certainly left us on our toes for the past few years, but I am certain it was for good reason and you will not upset with your third album. So buckle up fans and keeping guessing and wishing until we all ring in the new year…hopefully singing along to a British folk rock tune.
