Dear MSU,

Being a Spartan is something that comes with great pride, love for Sparty and love for East Lansing. There's nothing better in this world than being a Spartan. Thank you, MSU for introducing me to my best friends freshman year, and thank you for all the memories I've made, and all the ones I look forward to. Thank you for making me step out of my comfort zone, learn about different perspectives, and doing so with such subtlety I didn't even realize. Thank you for Saturday game days, for the wild tailgates, beer, and friends who've become my family away from home. Thank you for being the best tailgating city in the country, College and NFL. Thank you for having your own ice cream. I mean, the Dairy Store is the best stress reliever on this planet. Thank you for having the most colorful, and green campus (in my humble opinion). Being a Spartan comes with an insurmountable enthusiasm.

Anywhere you go, you can find a fellow Spartan, say "go green" and hear "go white" back immediately. Thank you for the great bar scene, Los Tres, and lots of Insomnia Cookies. I depend on those more than you will ever realize. Thank you for making us into a community, one with endless coffee shops, bookstores, and loads of Spartan Pride. Thank you, MSU, for allowing there to be a place for everyone. A place, where no one can feel alone. A place where everyone has a purpose on campus.

MSU has become more than the school I go to. It's where I learn and grow. Where my second family is. It's become a place I can't imagine leaving, nor want to. A place where I have found who I am, and who I still aspire to be. Where the Red Cedar River has become my favorite study spot (right outside of Hannah, where you still get wi-fi). I've fallen in love with the ways the leaves turn colors in the fall, and the first snowfall is pure magic. I can't see myself anywhere else than right where I am, and that's because of you, MSU.

So, thank you MSU for introducing me to a world of fun, while still reminding me that my education is the most important thing. Thank you for the students who have their voices heard and won't let anyone become silenced. Thank you for making me feel more than a number. The campus is huge but still feels so inclusive. MSU you're my home. My heart bleeds green and white forever.

Go Green.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
