Dear Mom, Thank You
Amanda Matsumoto

Being a mother is no easy task and I'm so thankful for the job my mom has done. With Mother's Day passing, here's a letter expressing my gratitude. Thank you, mom, for all the big and little things you do.

Dear Mom,

Thank you one million times. I know those words don't come out of my mouth as often as they should, but there are not enough thank yous that can be said to account for everything you do for me. Although I won't ever be able to repay you, I wanted to let you know I appreciate you!

For suffering through pregnancy pains, thank you.

Thank you for carrying me in your womb for 8-ish months (I was early) and enduring morning sickness, cravings, kicks and mood swings. Dad probably deserves a thank you for putting up with you during this time, but let's keep the focus on you.

For suffering through many hours of labor to bring me into this world, thank you.

I hear it's one of the most painful things a woman will experience. I can only imagine it until I have kids of my own, but thank you for being a champ and delivering me.

For caring for me around the clock as a newborn, thank you.

Thank you for feeding me, changing me, nurturing me and catering to my every need.

For preparing me to start school, thank you.

From putting up with my terrible twos to teaching me manners, thank you for your love and support to walk through the doors of kindergarten.

For guiding me through my school years, thank you.

Thank you for always making time to help me with homework, teaching me life lessons, preparing my lunch, signing forms and helping me grow into the person I am today. Sorry for all of the tantrums, the whines and the days of bad reports from the teacher. Although there were very few, thank you anyway.

For letting me be who I wanted to be, thank you.

Thank you for allowing me to trying every activity and sport without forcing me into one. Thank you for letting me try ice skating, soccer, girl scouts, art classes, band, choir, softball and everything in between to expand my horizons and be who I wanted to be. Thank you for letting me believe I was going to be the next Picasso or Mia Hamm, and thank you for shuffling me to and from all of my activities. Most of all, thank you for letting my imagination run free.

For putting up with my diva middle school self, thank you.

I am sorry for everything I put you through when I thought I ran the world and didn't need you. Thank you for loving me through all the fights, back talk and tears.

For being there for me while I discovered who I was, thank you.

Thank you for being there through every high school breakdown, breakup and when I thought life was going to end. Thank you for pushing me to be the best version of me. Thank you for reminding me of my talents and positive characteristics when my self-esteem wasn't high. Thank you for not pressuring me to be a certain person.

For being there through the college process, thank you.

Thank you for taking me on endless college visits, researching colleges, giving suggestions and, most importantly, leaving the decision up to me. I appreciate everything you did for me in my decision to attend Charleston Southern University.

For supporting me through every high and low in life, thank you.

During every celebration and every let down, thank you for encouraging me through it all. Thank you for being there through all of my failures and loving me when I let you down. Thank you for reminding me that success is right around the corner.

For offering advice whenever needed, thank you.

Thank you for endless advice on school, boys, and softball. Thank you for always offering helpful suggestions and guiding me through every obstacle I face.

For always being a phone call away, thank you.

Thank you for being there for me even when we were 1,000 miles apart. It gives me a sense of peace knowing that you are always a phone call or text away. Thank you for the many vent sessions and listening to me whenever I need you.

For being my number one fan, thank you.

No matter what I'm doing whether on the field, in the classroom or anywhere in between, thank you for cheering me on through it all. Even when I make you want to crawl and hide, thank you for continuing to sit in the stands and cheer for me (and continuing to love me after every bad game). I hope I make you proud.

For supporting my dreams 1,000 miles away, thank you.

For allowing me to attend college thousand of miles away from you, thank you. Thank you for believing in the little girl who said she was going to play Division One Softball. Thank you for allowing me to chase my dream. Thank you for making trips to see me any chance you had and always supporting me from home.

For the countless hugs and vent sessions, thank you.

I can't thank you enough for all the vent sessions and hugs. You know just when I need them. Nothing beats your hugs!

For every financial expense, thank you.

Between my rent, food, clothes, gas and other bills, I know it gets expensive. Thank you for supporting me financially. Thank you for funding me with everything I needed to accomplish my goals.

For your continuous love and support, thank you.

Can't thank you enough for your endless unconditional love and support even when I mess up. I love you!

For everything I didn't thank you for, thank you.

I know I probably missed some things and for those, thank you in advance. And if I forget to thank you in the future, here's a thank you in advance.

Thank you, mom, for everything. I love you and Happy Mother's Day!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
