Dear Mom, Thank You For All That You Do
Rachael Kate Grosso

Have you ever had a moment where you just stopped, and thought to yourself "I really need my mom right now?" As the time I have spent away from home starts to accumulate, the more regularly I find myself longing for my lifelong best friend. Any girl in college can relate to this feeling, and sometimes it just kind of sucks. On the other hand, its's a good feeling to know that your close enough with your mom to also long for her. Moms everywhere deserve a thank you for all the things they do for us, but more importantly, for the many things we do that they put up with.

Thank You for being our always reliable best friend, especially when we need one most. Sometimes when we get in a fight with our friends, boyfriend, or even our OTHER best friend, it is just nice to have someone always in our corner.

Thank You for putting up with us when we were between the ages of 12-16, we know that we were brats; Those awkward middle school and early high school years are unfortunately not able to be avoided. From the bottom of our hearts, we apologize for the occasional back talk and for constantly asking you to drive us to the mall, to our friends house, and all around town; Back before the era of our licenses, we did not realize how much we were asking.

Thank You for being our personal advice column. Growing up means lots of obstacles, disappointment, heartaches, and fallouts. It is tough just enduring all of that as a young person, and would be more tough without having you to talk to. You always know the right thing to say, even when we do not always want to hear it. You are our voice of reason.

Thank You for being my role model. One day when I am older, I hope that I can be just as good of a wife, mother, and all around person as you are. Having someone that I aspire to be like makes getting older that much easier. You have shown us 1000 ways to do life right, and now thanks to you we have the tools to be a successful person.

Most importantly, thank you for being you. There is a difference between genetically having a mom, and having someone who has showered you with love, affection, and nurture your whole life. You bring out the best version of us when we are with you, and make us a better person every day. Our lives would not be the same if you did not play a major role in it. Sometimes we do not make it seem like we comprehend the vast amount of roles that you encompass, but trust me we do. Thank you moms for everything that you do, and as you know we love love love you.

XOXO

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
