Dear Media, Do Better

You're supposed to be professionals.

The media has lost its freaking mind.

What in the world are they thinking? It seems top media professionals are constantly posting crazy news without the right facts and twisting words to make society go nuts. I'm honestly fed up with their unprofessional behavior and their extremely biased opinions tricking people into thinking a certain way.

As a future public relations professional, I'm seriously ashamed of this industry. The fields of journalism, public relations, and mass media have all been losing their credibility and their trust from the American people. I think they've forgotten the importance of their job and the need for ethical, unbiased news. Facebook has created a massive pool of fake news, click bait articles, and useless stories. Professionals are just dumping whatever they can into that pool for the views because apparently, that's more important than morally sound articles. Even worse, there are many news outlets that pretend to be dependable sources, but they are really just pushing their biases onto other people who rely on them for information.

It's really just a colossal scam on the American people.

Media professionals have been purposely inserting their own biases into their work and treating their opinions as fact. They have been secretly pushing their own agenda rather than getting the important news out to the people. Mass media is a right of the people. This includes all angles of a story, all facts from a case and pure, unbiased reporting. Their relaxed regulations have allowed them to run rampant and destroy their field for the future. I hope that students who are studying communication right now are just as upset over current media outlets as I am. They are destroying the line between fact and fiction. They are undermining credibility, trustworthiness, and professionalism and they are ruining our society's ability to perceive real news from fake news.

What happened to honest journalists? What happened to trustworthy media contacts and public relations professionals who were reliable and thoughtful? It seems like current leaders in this field need to go. We cannot keep allowing them to lie to us and to hide things from us. We cannot let unchecked facts be broadcasted as truth or distorted views corrupt our own thoughts.

People are dependent on the media to help them become aware of the world and the events happening around them. We rely on the media to share the truth about current international relations, trends in our society, technological advances, medical miracles, and so much more. We are all affected by what we do and do not know.

We've become apathetic to news because we can't discern fact from fiction. Instead, we should be fighting for the truth. It's time we start shaming the media into doing their job the right way and let them know we won't put up with their behavior any longer.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
