Dear Future Students, Sincerely, Your Student Teacher

Bear with me, because I'm still trying to get a hang of the ropes...

Dear future students,

In just a short time, I will be taking my first steps into a high school for the first time as a non-student. Well, sort of. Even though I won't have my university degree yet, my whole world will be changing and transforming from a student's life to the life of a teacher with her first "real" job. But let me get something straight right off the bat, even though I won't be paid to teach, and I won't be able to stay at this one school forever, trust me when I say that being in your classroom for half a year is the most important thing I will have done in years.

Even though I'll only be in your classroom for a few months, all I want is to get to know my students, to be enthusiastic in everything I do, and to make sure that all of my students are excited and thriving in the classroom I get to borrow from your teacher. Oh, and I want to pass my student teaching so I can get out in the world and do this thing for real in my own classroom.

So kids, here are a few things you might want to know about me…

I'm nervous to teach for all of you, but that doesn't mean I'm scared. I'm actually very excited because I love working with kids and I can't wait to finally be doing what I love in a more tangible way.

I might stumble a bit along the way, but please bare with me because I'm still trying to learn the ropes so that I can be the best teacher I can be for all of my future students, you all included.

I will do everything in my power to do right by you and to do my job well enough that you all leave my classroom every day knowing a little bit more about the world and being a little more prepared for it.

Lastly, what I want you to know is that, even though I may be nervous to enter your classroom, I have every intention of succeeding in it. But here's the thing, for me, succeeding means you all are succeeding in your classes and improving yourselves to be the best versions of yourselves. Our successes run together, hand in hand, and they can either run up or downhill, but I will do everything in my power to take our ride uphill and as far as we can go together so we can succeed together.

Sincerely,

Your Future Student Teacher

P.S. Don't worry, I'll remember all of your names as soon as I can, I promise!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
