Dear friends who aren't in my inner circle,
First of all, how are you? I wouldn't know, because I'm a terrible human being and don't ever text/call/email/send a carrier pigeon to your window with a letter in its claws. I know I haven't talked to you in awhile, but I'm sure you can agree that everyone has been a tiny bit busy with everything that is going on in our lives. I just wanted to write this article to let everyone know that I am alive and that I don't hate you.
Let me begin by clarifying what I mean by my "inner circle" -- this is in no way calling you a lesser friend. I just don't get to see or talk to you as often as these people. I see my "inner circle" every day in my classes or in the halls, so I just naturally talk to them more. Will that change as classes change and people graduate? Of course, and then there will be a new "inner circle." But please remember that we are also still friends and I cherish that, even if I only remember to text you once every so often completely out of the blue to talk about your pet cat or a funny meme that reminded me of you or something.
Also, remember that you have the factor of time on your side. I may be making new friends as I blindly navigate through life, but I've known you longer than these people. We have history together (and we could have even had history together in high school if I've known you that long). Personally, I like taking a quaint trip down memory lane every once in a while, so if you see something that reminds you of me, show me! I especially love finding old pictures of my friends and I where one/all of us looks really bad (because we were young and everyone looked bad at some point), and then being especially petty and posting them on social media to playfully relive that torture for a night or two, so I say bring it on.
(Like this beauty right here of me from six years ago.)
I digress, though. The point that I am trying to make with this article is that yes, we are all busy now that we are out of high school and in the real world with school and jobs and relationships and bills and all of that "fun" adult stuff we all looked forward to back in the day. Yes, we all made new friends once we started doing our own things. Yes, we all technically have the time to shoot each other a text every now and then, but no, it hardly ever happens. We're busy. That's life now. But, at least in my book, we are still friends. Unless we get into huge fights or something dramatic and (probably) unnecessary like that, I still consider us friends, and I hope you do too. Hopefully we'll talk again soon.
