Dear Freshman Parents,
It's been about a month since you dropped your little one off at their new home, aka college. You're probably wondering how it's going for them, if they're actually happy, and if they're keeping up with their studies. I can assure you that they're okay. It's tough leaving your child behind in a new area code. But this place is full of wonderful opportunities that are gonna help them mature and grow into who they are meant to be. That's not to say they won't mess up or have a couple anxiety attacks along the way but they will be learn how to get through it on their own.
For me, I moved to my college 1,450 miles away from home. It was the best decision I have ever made. It not only forced me to grow up, but it forced me to learn how to be on my own and do things for myself.
It has helped me mature and grow as a person in more ways then I ever thought it could. When I came here I didn’t necessarily have the best grades but with the motivation and support of my sorority, my GPA has continuously gone up each semester. It has also helped me with leadership. I hold two positions within my chapter and one executive position with all of Panhellenic. I've always been the type to be involved, but I was never one to lead the way. Being away at college has taught me how to be responsible.
With it being my senior year I'm sad to be leaving soon, so to you -- the parents who have a freshman in college -- I can assure you they are in good hands. They may fall down or come across a rocky path but they will always fine their way and stand back up.
