Dear Facebook,

Hello Facebook, I hope you are doing well. I have a small issue I would like to inform you of. What is with you deleting patriotic posts?!?!!

Seriously, I posted a video yesterday of a family crying over the casket of their fallen soldier with the caption, “THIS IS WHY WE STAND” and it didn't get deleted, nor do I think it should. But then today, I posted a picture of four different patriotic images that were captioned with phrases along these lines of, “this is why we stand for the National Anthem, this is why we say the Pledge of Allegiance, this is why we don't erase history, and this is why we support our troops.” Please tell me what is so wrong with that!! Um, freedom of speech is a right to every American, and Facebook is a platform where people are allowed to speak their opinion on things. People post far worse and more offensive things on Facebook. My post was simply a patriotic post stating these are the reasons we support our country and do the things we do. So what if people get offended or don't like what I post and get their underwear in a twist!?! All they have to do is unfollow or unfriend me, it’s pretty simple.

This isn't the first time I’ve seen Facebook delete patriotic posts either. Public Figure, Graham Allen from South Carolina has had several of his posts taken down from Facebook. He’s even gotten temporarily banned from Facebook because of his “offensive posts.” I saw the Facebook posts before they got taken down and I never once thought they were offensive. In fact, I thought they were pretty cool. Most of them were pictures of him holding either a gun, an American flag, or both. I don't quite see how that is considered offensive. Now if it were a picture of him burning the American flag, which he would never do, then I could see how it would be considered offensive.

If you're a true American, you shouldn't consider pictures of the American flag offensive. However guns are a whole different issue that I’m not going to get into today, but still if you don't want to see it, just unfollow the person who posted it. It’s not that difficult, it’s literally a click of a button.

Nowadays people get so offended and “triggered” at the slightest things and it’s becoming ridiculous. Some schools aren’t allowing students to wear clothing with the American flag on it because it’s considered offensive. Excuse me?! What?! No. My child will not go to a school with those kinds of rules. Ever. What ever happened to saying the Pledge of Allegiance every morning, or flying the American flag in front of the school and having a mini one in the classroom? What happened to showing your American pride? What happened to being proud to be an American?

Facebook, please stop deleting patriotic posts and learn what’s really “offensive.”

Sincerely,

A proud American

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
