Dear Charleston,
This is just a little thank you letter for being the best hometown I could have ever dreamed of. I can not imagine growing up anywhere else. Thank you for the endless memories and countless adventures. You are the best city in this whole world.
I mean you were voted the best city to visit in the United States by Travel and Leisure! How could you not want to visit CHS? With all the amazing local restaurants, historical landmarks, and of course the amazing beaches. One of my favorite spots in Chuck Town has to be Battery Park. With all the oak trees and being right on the water and all the amazing old houses, it is easily one of the most beautiful spots in the city. This city has my whole heart.
When I was growing up, all of my classmates used to say, 'I can't wait to move out of Charleston', 'I hate living in South Carolina'. Every time I heard this, I shook my head in disbelief. I could not imagine living anywhere else in the world. This city has had my heart since day one.
Ever since I was little, I have loved going downtown. Before I was obsessed with all of the shops on King Street, the pineapple fountain had my heart. My mom would take me to the fountain during the summer, and let me play for hours and hours in the water. We would walk down the battery and go to the children's museum and the aquarium.
As I got older, and the museum wasn't as fun anymore, my mom took me to the shops on King. Every second Sunday of the month, King Street closes and the shops and all kinds of vendors go out onto the street and live music plays, and they're are dogs all out with their owners, and it's positively my favorite day of the month. How you could ever not want to live in the Holy City is a mystery to me.
So, dear, dear Charleston, please don't forget about me while I am away at college, because I could never ever forget the countless memories you have given me. Thank you for giving me the best childhood home I could ask for.
xoxo,
Madison
