Dear 2018,

I don't know if you have noticed, but we have had a rough couple of years between 2016 and 2017. We have lost a lot of great people like David Bowie, Prince, and Alan Rickman. We have been through devastating natural disasters like Hurricanes Harvey and Irma which have left some people still without power, and wildfires that terrorized California, which were apart of the most destructive wildfire season they've had on record. We have seen heartbreaking mass shootings like the Las Vegas Shooting, the Orlando Shooting, and the Sutherlands Springs Shooting, which knocked the Columbine Shooting off the list Top Ten Shootings in the US and resulted in over 130 deaths. We have felt scared and hopeless after terrorist attacks like vehicular attacks in New York and Virginia and the Police Shootings in Texas. We have seen underlying racism boil to the surface, and white supremacists like Richard Spencer have been given stages to stand on. We have seen the results of rape culture through the #metoo campaign where we saw how large the problem is. We have found out that many men we respected and admired have hurt women around them. We have seen an unqualified president that is disrespectful to women and those of other cultures rise to power. We have survived hard times.

We need a break. We deserve a year of peace and happiness, and 2018 you are our best hope. Please be good to us. We are tired and hurting people who just want there to be love and happiness. Bring us a year of both physical and mental health. Give us good weather. Help us heal and love one another. Bring us together as a nation. Show us how to live equally, and that race, gender, sexuality, and religion don't matter because we are all humans just trying to make it through life. Help us respect one another. Give us a year where good political decisions are made by all politicians including our president. Just bring us a good year 2018 before we lose hope because we are counting on you.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
