Dear 13 Year Old Me

What I Wish I Knew When I Was 13.

Dear 13 Year Old Me,

Oh man, you're going through so much right now. But bear with me, because there are so many things I wish I could tell you.

For only being 13 and being in middle school, you've been through so much. And that “so much” will change your life more than you know. I will never deny how hard you have it right now. For such a young age, you know pain and depression, something nobody should know at that age. Here's the thing though,

It gets better. It will always get better. Everything will get better. Don't give up, just wait.

Don't spend hours on your make up and hair. I hate to tell you, but you don't know how to do it yet anyways.

Trust your parents, They truly only want what's best for you. Let them ground you and take away your phone, you probably deserved it. Let them hover, let them come to every event and take as many pictures as they want. I know it bugs the crap out of you, but this is the stuff they'll need once you move on. Don't take spending time with them for granted, hangout with them. Go to the mall with them. Bring them to your friends softball game. Ask them to have movie marathons with you(and don't sit on your phone the whole time). These are the things you will yearn for later on. These are the things that will make those little memories that will pop up randomly and make you nostalgic.

Do well in school, for gods sake. Spend the 30 minutes it will take you on homework a night. Study, it's not that hard. It's not hard at all actually. Be the person that wants to learn, I promise it's beneficial. You have no idea how much you'll regret it. How much you will wish you would've known then what you know now. And you also have no clue how proud it makes your parents. Yes, even the little things, just getting A's and B's on tests. They will brag behind your back, and it will make you feel so good.

Drop the zebra print and neon everything.. I'm begging you.

Don't care about what people think about you. You are not who you will become yet. Even though you probably think you are, you are not the person you will be.Don't think you have to be mean to get in with the cool kids. Don't throw away the sweater grandma bought you because of what other people will think. Just don't do it, be who you want to be. Wear what you think is cute, not what is in style. Be comfortable being who you really are.

Be kind. Be generous. Be the best person you can be. As Ashton Kutcher said, "The sexiest thing in the entire world is being really smart. And being thoughtful and being generous. Everything else is crap. I promise you. It's just crap that people try to sell to you to make you feel like less. So don't buy it. Be smart. Be thoughtful and be generous. " Do not worry about being somebody you're not. That's all crap. Be the girl who everyone knows is kind. And the girl whose not afraid to stand out, in the best way possible.

I promise you, you will be great. You don't know it yet, and honestly you won't for a while. But you will be wonderful. You will change into the beautiful type of woman that you envy right now. You're 13, and you don't know it but before a blink of your eye you will be on your own, in college, with people you haven't met yet, in places that you've never heard of. You'll be 21, and becoming the successful woman you dreamed of, but never imagined would be in reach.

You don't know your strength yet. God you don't know your strength. But I look back and I am so, so proud of you. I am so proud of everything you did to become who you are. Thank you, for always being so strong, even when you didn't know you were.

You got this, good luck,

- A wiser you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
