The Days Before Spring Break Explained

The time for spring break is upon us… almost. No matter if you are going on a trip, just going home for the week, or even staying in your college town, it still means a week without classes! As hard as it is to imagine waiting for spring break when it is weeks away, it is definitely more difficult once it is a week or less away. Each day is a new stretch of track on “The Roller Coaster of Emotion” that can be found in the amusement park “College World.” This roller coaster can be found in-between “Midterm Mania” and “Project Palooza.” Okay, enough with the amusement park analogy because I’m sure you get the point. Regardless, here are the stages that everyone goes through the week before spring break.

7 days until spring break:

How am I going to make it through this week? Seven days is way too long. I have so much to do, and for some reason all of my professors think that college students are actually going to be productive when we are this close to a break.

6 days until spring break:

I should maybe start doing all of these projects, assignments, and studying for the quiz that the professor will have to punish those who miss the day of class before spring break. OR, I could start packing. Yeah, let’s do that.

Alright, I now have at least read over the guidelines for my projects and assignments. I still don’t know what the quiz is on but at this point I don’t care. I’m ready to bounce and I don’t care if that has consequences on my grades right now… Okay maybe I do but I really don’t want to put in the effort. I’m physically incapable of studying.

I only have to go to sleep two more times before spring break is here. I have a limited number of total classes and work shifts left before I can officially say I’M DONE. Some of my homework is completed, but all of my packing is done. Looks like the weather forecast has changed for the week…IT’S EVEN BETTER! How can I possibly concentrate when I know I get to be warm?

2 days until spring break

I have lost all will to participate in class discussions. I have vacation brain. There is no way I will do anything to prepare for that quiz. I’ve officially decided that I’m checking out two days early. I am now attending my classes physically, but definitely not mentally.

1 day until spring break

I definitely should have studied for that quiz but I’m too checked out to care. If I can get through two more classes, I am home free. I know I packed already but I feel like I should go shopping and get some fun stuff for the trip, make a playlist for the drive, look at the weather again, paint my nails, etc.

First day of spring break:

TODAY'S THE DAY. My first day of freedom. Is this what it feels like to have no responsibilities? Technically I have homework due when I get back but forget about it, I’m done!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
