Dani Mathers, "the Playmate of the Year" in 2015, is receiving a lot of backlash after body shaming a naked woman in an LA gym locker room.
Mathers for some reason thought it was acceptable to post a Snapchat on her story of a naked woman with the caption "If I can't unsee this then you can't either." She followed up the Snapchat on her story with a picture of her holding her hand over her mouth.
LA Fitness has banned Mathers for life from their facilities after the news came out about her Snapchat. The gym says they have a strict policy against cellphone use and photography in the locker rooms.
Following the backlash of the pictures posted to her Snapchat story, Mathers shared an apology on her Snapchat.
"I just want to acknowledge a photo that I accidentally posted. It was absolutely wrong and not what I meant to do; I chose to do what I do for a living because I love the female body and I know body shaming is wrong, that's not what I'm about and this is not the type of person I am. The photo was taken as part of a personal conversation with a girlfriend and because I am new to Snapchat I didn't realize I had posted it, and that was a huge mistake. I know I have upset a lot of people out there but please please believe me this is not the type of person that I am. I have never done this before and I will never do this again, you have my word," Mathers said.
The whole situation disgusts me because as a model, she should know about the pressures of keeping up a certain body image. I'm angry that she tried to say she meant to send it to a friend, and she tried to say it was an accident. It's still terrible that she would take a picture of someone and send it to a friend, and it's terrible that she would judge someone at a gym trying to make a change to their health.
She is saying "that's not the type of person I am", but it is or she wouldn't have said it in the first place. My heart goes out to that woman she took a photo of because no one should have to fear something like this happening to them in a locker room. The poor lady was in a locker room where she thought she would be safe from body shaming.
To me, the apology from Mathers just seems fake. I think the only reason she apologized was because she didn't want to lose her job and she didn't want to look bad. Too late for her to say sorry now (a little Justin Bieber reference).
TMZ reported on Friday morning that Dani Mathers was suspended indefinitely from her long-running radio gig on "The Heidi and Frank Show" at KLOS-FM. I'm completely disappointed in the model, but I am happy that LA Fitness and her job are taking a stand against this kind of behavior.
Dani Mathers should be as disgusted with herself as all of us are with her because what she did was cruel and hurtful. I hope she can find it in her heart to actually be sorry, but it may be too late.
